Job Purpose
The Vector Logistics Finance Team seeks a motivated individual to join our team and oversee, expand, and manage our owner driver scheme nationally. The role will be responsible for overseeing and supporting a fleet of owner drivers who own and operate their own vehicles within a set of Key Performance Indicators. The role will serve as the point of contact between the company and owner drivers to ensure operational performance aligns with broader logistics and customer service objectives.

The role will be responsible for overseeing and supporting a fleet of owner drivers who own and operate their own vehicles within a set of Key Performance Indicators. The role will serve as the point of contact between the company and owner drivers to ensure operational performance aligns with broader logistics and customer service objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Cost And Efficiency Management
- Design, maintain, and implement owner driver billing models across various business functions, vehicle classifications, and contract periods.
- Ensure contractual terms with owner-drivers are financially sustainable.
- Monitor Owner driver cost performance (fuel, maintenance, insurance).
- Validate and approve owner driver payments based on scorecard achievement and individual performance.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and negotiate with owner drivers where appropriate.
- Develop set of criteria to attract and sign up relevant individuals as owner drivers.
- Oversee the attraction and signing up of qualified owner drivers with the HR recruitment team.
- Determine onboarding and training requirements for each owner driver and ensure each driver receives necessary requirements.
- Liaising with the banking institutions for finance arrangements.
- Work closely with depot managers, customer service, and transport planning teams.
- Ensure owner driver performance aligns with broader logistics and customer service objectives.
- Engage with HR and Legal for issues related to contracts, disputes, or misconduct.
- Ensure all owner drivers operate within the terms of their contracts. Manage contract renewals and terminations.
- Implement performance improvement plans for underperforming owner drivers.
- Collaborate with logistics planners to improve load planning and reduce empty kilometers.
- Ensure that all owner drivers are adequately developed to run their own businesses while adhering to safety, legal, tax, and company requirements.
- Conduct regular safety audits and incident investigations.
- Drive training and awareness initiatives around Zero Harm and safe driving behaviors.
- Drive compliance with branding, vehicle maintenance, and appearance standards.
- Ensure on-time departures and deliveries according to SLA.
- Monitor daily delivery performance and take corrective action for any discrepancies.
- Maintain KPIs through a performance scorecard and ensure accurate reporting and billing calculations.
- Conduct daily and weekly performance reviews with owner drivers.
- Identify route optimization and fleet efficiency opportunities.
- Maintain accurate records of owner driver contracts, performance, incidents, and compliance.
- Provide weekly and monthly performance reports to senior management.
- Use data analytics to track trends and recommend interventions.
- Facilitate data collection and management of the information for the annual BBBEE audit.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience Required for the Job
- B-Com Financial Management or equivalent degree or, Transport Management or, B-Com Logistics Management.
- 5-10 years’ experience in an owner driver program or relevant transport position
- Fully literate in English.
