A leading and innovative insurance organisation is looking to appoint a Senior Actuary to join its dynamic actuarial function.

A senior actuarial opportunity is available for a qualified actuary who enjoys driving efficiencies and enhancing processes across actuarial functions. This role is well suited to a proactive individual who will lead a small team and work closely with the Head of Actuarial, as well as collaborate across key actuarial areas including Valuations, SAM, IFRS 17, and Budgeting.

Duties

  • Drive continuous improvement across actuarial processes, with a focus on efficiency and scalability.
  • Work collaboratively across actuarial teams to optimise workflows and expand the use of automation.
  • Valuations, Embedded Value, Value of New Business, and Analysis of Change in Embedded Value across multiple entities.
  • Experience investigations and assumption setting.
  • Data management and ETL processes.
  • Provide oversight of non-insurance reporting within the actuarial function.
  • Contribute to budgeting and forecasting activities.
  • Identify and implement enhancements to actuarial systems and tools.
  • Support ad hoc and once-off projects as required.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop junior actuarial team members.

Job Experience & Skills Required

Qualifications

  • Matric (Grade 12)
  • BSc / Honours - Actuarial Science or Mathematical Statistics
  • Fully qualified actuary (FIA, ASA, or equivalent ) depending on the actuarial body.
  • Progress toward CIA accreditation is desirable and will be considered an advantage

Experience

  • A minimum of six years’ actuarial experience within the insurance sector, including at least two years post-qualification.
  • Demonstrated experience leading or overseeing actuarial or analytical teams.
  • Hands-on experience with Excel and actuarial modelling tools such as Basys or Prophet.
  • Exposure to data and reporting tools, including QlikView, SQL, or similar platforms.
  • Practical experience translating actuarial analysis into meaningful commercial insights.
  • Experience working with automation, analytics, or cloud-based tools (e.g. Azure, Power BI, Python) would be advantageous.
