POSITION INFO
Minimum Qualifications
- Grade 12
Minimum Experience
- 3 years’ experience as an operator/ heavy duty driver
- Code C/EC1/EC Licence (previous Code 10/11/14)
- Experienced heavy-duty driver
- Valid TLB / digger-loader certificate from accredited provider
- Proof of training in operation of High-Up
- Proof of training in operation of forklift or truck-mounted crane
- Proof of training in operation of mini excavator
Key Outputs
Reporting to the Foreman, the appointee will
- Operate a TLB, mini excavator, and truck mounted crane to remove burst pipes, dig and refill trenches for bulk pipelines, reservoirs and chambers to assist with the effective and efficient repair and/ or construction of new work as applicable, pipes, chemicals, heavy pumps
- Operate a forklift to load and off load goods and equipment
- Transport dangerous goods and implement dangerous goods procedures
- Drive a 14-ton rollback, 8 ton rollback, 10 ton water tanker, tipper truck and trailer and 10 ton truck to deliver TLB, mini excavator, chlorine, sand, stone and pipes to various wastewater and potable water treatment works and network etc. as applicable
- Dig trenches and manholes for the construction of new pipelines, reservoirs, cables, ducts, works and repair existing trenches
- Clean trenches and holes for easy laying and alignment of pipes and concrete structures and planting of poles and markers
- Repair fences where construction/maintenance of pipelines caused damage
- Perform necessary maintenance and repairs to ensure good condition
- Isolate and drain pipelines out before digging trenches
- Monitor that hand tools are not misused or used in a dangerous way
- Make sure lifting equipment is in a good condition before attempts are made to lift equipment
- Use correct lifting techniques to safely remove damaged pipes, plant and equipment
- Carry out reasonable and lawful instructions as given by the line manager/supervisor within the ambit of the position taking into consideration competencies and operational requirements
Key Competencies
- Knowledge of basic safety regulations
- Literate
- Carry out standby duties as per standby roster to assist with breakdowns
- Work overtime as required to assist with breakdowns
- Valid unendorsed driver’s license
