About the Role

The Subtropico Group is seeking an experienced and driven Divisional Financial Manager to lead and manage the finance function within one of it’s subsidiaries.

Reporting directly to the Group CFO and Group Financial Manager the successful candidate will oversee the regional financial teams on branch level and ensure the delivery of accurate, insightful, and high-quality financial reporting to Group leadership, divisional management, and the Board.

This opportunity is ideally suited to a strong finance professional with excellent technical expertise, high attention to detail, and the ability to lead and develop a high-performing team within a structured and controlled financial environment.

The role will play a critical part in strengthening financial reporting standards, ensuring audit readiness and compliance, driving effective consolidation processes, and maintaining adherence to internal controls, company policies, and financial procedures across the division.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leading and managing the full finance function within the division
  • Supervising, mentoring, and developing the regional financial team on branch level
  • Ensuring accurate, complete, and timely financial reporting to Group leadership, divisional management, and the Board
  • Managing and coordinating the divisional annual audit process, including engagement with external auditors
  • Driving monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting processes and deliverables
  • Reviewing financial and operational information to ensure accuracy, quality, consistency, and completeness
  • Preparing, reviewing, and consolidating divisional financial information for executive and Board reporting purposes
  • Ensuring compliance with internal policies, governance frameworks, financial controls, and approval processes
  • Monitoring and strengthening the internal control environment while identifying opportunities for improvement
  • Ensuring compliance with applicable legislation, tax regulations, statutory requirements, and company policies
  • Overseeing SARS submissions and other regulatory reporting obligations
  • Leading budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and divisional financial performance reviews
  • Providing strategic financial insights, recommendations, and risk-based guidance to senior leadership
  • Driving a high-performance finance culture focused on accountability, continuous improvement, accuracy, and operational excellence
  • Supporting business decision-making through effective financial analysis and reporting
  • Building strong working relationships with internal stakeholders across the division and Group

Minimum Requirements & Experience

  • BCom degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • Completed SAICA or SAIPA articles
  • A minimum of 5 years’ post-articles experience in a financial management role
  • Proven experience leading and managing a finance team
  • Strong experience in financial reporting, audit processes, consolidations, budgeting, and internal financial controls
  • Sound knowledge of accounting principles, tax legislation, and statutory compliance requirements
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organisational skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to work accurately under pressure
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities
  • Proficiency in financial systems and advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Afrikaans

Advantageous Experience

• Experience within a divisional, regional, or group reporting environment

• Experience preparing and presenting financial reports to senior management, executives, or Board members

• Exposure to multi-branch or multi-entity financial environments

• Working knowledge of Sage 300 People

• Exposure to Sage Intacct or other cloud-based ERP systems

• Experience within the agriculture, livestock, auctioneering, or related industries

• Experience driving process improvements, reporting efficiencies, and financial best practices across a division or business unit
