Purpose of the position
The peer educator should focus on directly supporting HIV testing services, including community and facility-based testing, as well as the integration of supportive services such as pre- and post-test counselling, offering PrEP and PEP, linkage to treatment, viral load suppression and re-entry into care. Perform minimum required M&E activities
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12/ NCV
- Accredited/Recognised 10 Days HIV counselling certificates
- Certified to conduct finger prick testing
- One (1) years’ related experience and/or training
- Ability to communicate in English and isiXhosa languages
- Driver’s license would be advantageous
- Residing within the allocated ward/district
- Knowledge and experience in a DREAMS or related programme a requirement
- Experience in data collection and capturing
- MS Office profiency
- Clear criminal record
- Ability to travel as and when required
Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct mapping, with the guidance of the Nurse clinician and enrolled nurse, to identify hots spots to mobilize most at risk populations.
- Draw on knowledge of the target community to identify Community –Based Organizations, youth structures, youth ambassadors and Community Health Workers to support the mobilization
- Conduct pre-screening to identify individuals at high risk of HIV and link to care
In addition for community:
- treatment literacy including PrEP for children/adolescents’/ young people through community based
psychosocial support focusing on adherence and disclosure including:
- Continued sensitization of community-based organizations working with children/adolescents and related stakeholders on linkage and treatment adherence
- Support the implementation and strategy as the Data Capturer with the team.
- Ensure the interventionists capture the paper-based forms on the electronic system
- Verify, scan, rename, and upload enrolment and risk forms and service plans provided by the interventionists
- Manage your appointments for each team/interventionist to submit and discuss their data
- Provide information to Team Leads on staff who are not capturing correctly to ensure ethical data and correction of the problem
- Health promotion during EPI catch-up/integrated community mobile outreach services
- Submit weekly and monthly reports to the supervisor
