The Branch Manager will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of one of their busy retail and trade yards.
As the Branch Manager, you will be fully responsible for driving sales, managing a diverse team, optimizing inventory, and ensuring an exceptional customer experience for both DIY enthusiasts and professional contractors.
Key Responsibilities
- Operations & Yard Management
- Oversee daily branch operations to ensure efficiency, cleanliness, and a welcoming environment for customers.
- Enforce strict health and safety protocols to ensure the safe handling and storage of heavy timber and outdoor products.
- Coordinate local logistics, including vehicle scheduling and customer deliveries.
- Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, motivate, and manage yard staff, sales consultants, and drivers.
- Conduct performance reviews, identify training needs, and foster a collaborative, high-energy work culture.
- Manage staff rosters and ensure optimal floor coverage during peak retail hours.
- Sales & Customer Service
- Drive the branch to meet and exceed monthly and annual sales and profitability targets.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key trade clients, contractors, and landscapers.
- Resolve customer complaints efficiently and maintain a high standard of customer service.
- Stock & Financial Control
- Manage stock levels, minimize shrinkage, and oversee regular stock takes.
- Ensure accurate product ordering to balance demand with yard capacity.
- Oversee daily cash handling, point-of-sale (POS) reconciliations, and basic branch financial reporting.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Experience: 3–5 years of experience in retail, wholesale, or branch management (experience within the timber, hardware, building supplies, or outdoor landscaping industry is highly advantageous).
- Leadership: Proven track record of managing and motivating a hands-on operations and sales team.
- Skills: Strong commercial acumen with a knack for driving sales and negotiating with contractors.
- Operations: Experience with inventory management software, stock control, and basic logistics.
- Attributes: High energy, physically resilient (comfortable working in an outdoor yard environment), and an excellent problem-solver.
- License: Valid driver’s license is required.
