SUMMARY

Take the lead in shaping data-driven decision-making within one of South Africa’s most dynamic and complex consumer environments. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Data Scientist to step into a leadership role, driving advanced analytics, machine learning, and AI initiatives while guiding a team of high-performing junior Data Scientists.

POSITION INFO

The ideal candidate will blend strong technical expertise with excellent communication skills, translating complex data insights into clear, actionable strategies that influence executive-level decision-making.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of four Junior Data Scientists
• Drive the design, development, and deployment of advanced analytics and machine learning solutions
• Build predictive, prescriptive, and forecasting models to support key business initiatives
• Apply statistical techniques such as regression, clustering, classification, and time-series analysis
• Translate complex technical outputs into clear insights for non-technical stakeholders
• Partner with business units to identify and unlock data-driven opportunities
• Collaborate with Data Engineering and Technology teams to ensure scalable model deployment
• Establish and enforce best practices across data science and model governance
• Monitor model performance and continuously enhance analytical solutions
• Champion the adoption of AI and advanced analytics across the organisation

Education

• Honours degree or higher in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, Actuarial Science, or a related field
• Master’s degree advantageous

Experience

• Minimum of 4 years’ experience in Data Science, Machine Learning, or Advanced Analytics
• Proven experience leading or mentoring Data Science teams
• Experience working with large datasets and cloud-based environments
• Strong track record of delivering impactful, business-driven analytics solutions
• Exposure to engaging with senior stakeholders and executive teams

Technical Skills

• Advanced proficiency in Python and SQL
• Strong knowledge of machine learning, statistical modelling, and predictive analytics
• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP
• Familiarity with MLOps and model deployment practices is beneficial
• Experience with visualisation tools such as Power BI or Tableau
