Production Manager Wanted for Custom Fabrication Facility

Are you a hands-on, operationally sharp leader with a knack for unblocking bottlenecks in a fast-paced environment? Sapientis is recruiting a Production Manager for a specialized industrial manufacturer in Springs.

Because this is a agile, custom-fabrication environment, this role is ideally suited for a mid-to-senior professional with around 10 years of experience who thrives on the workshop floor and understands production scheduling for custom orders.

Your Key Mandate

• Shopfloor Management: Manage daily production sequences across welding, custom steel fabrication, boilermaking, assembly, and painting.
• Scheduling & Throughput: Translate complex, job-specific production plans into daily execution while maintaining basic plant maintenance exposure.
• Bottleneck Optimization: Apply process discipline to identify workflow constraints early, minimize rework, and protect delivery timelines.
• People Leadership: Supervise team leaders and artisans; enforce strict quality control, safety protocols, and drawings compliance.

Requirements

• Experience: ±10 years of hands-on operational experience within heavy fabrication, custom steel fabrication, boilermaking, or jobbing shop environments.
• Methodology: Familiarity with the Theory of Constraints (ToC) is highly desirable (traditional Lean manufacturing experience is an advantage but considered secondary to ToC).
• Technical Credibility: Deep understanding of welding and fabrication environments; ability to read complex engineering drawings.
• Qualifications: Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Engineering qualification preferred; a recognized Trade background with strong engineering acumen will be considered.
• Location: Must be based in or able to commute to Springs, Gauteng.
