Primary Purpose

Duties & Responsibilities

Supply Chain Strategy and Planning:

  • Develop, implement and manage supply chain strategies aligned to business objectives.
  • Oversee the end-to-end supply chain process, including procurement, inventory control, warehousing, logistics and distribution.
  • Monitor supply chain performance and identify areas for improvement, cost reduction and efficiency enhancement.

Procurement and Supplier Management:

  • Manage procurement activities to ensure the timely sourcing of raw materials, components and operational supplies.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and service providers.
  • Negotiate pricing, contracts and service level agreements to ensure value for money and continuity of supply.
  • Evaluate supplier performance and address any issues relating to quality, delivery or pricing.

Inventory and Warehouse Management:

  • Oversee inventory planning and stock control to ensure optimal stock levels are maintained.
  • Minimise excess stock, shortages and obsolete inventory through effective forecasting and planning.
  • Ensure warehouse operations are managed efficiently and in accordance with company procedures.
  • Implement inventory accuracy controls and regular cycle counts.

Logistics and Distribution:

  • Coordinate transportation, delivery schedules and distribution processes to ensure on-time delivery of goods.
  • Monitor logistics costs and identify opportunities to improve service and reduce expenditure.
  • Ensure compliance with transport regulations and internal operational requirements.

Operational Coordination:

  • Work closely with production, sales, finance and warehouse teams to ensure smooth supply chain operations.
  • Support production planning by ensuring the availability of materials and resources.
  • Align supply chain activities with customer demand and manufacturing schedules.

Reporting and Analysis:

  • Prepare and present supply chain reports, including stock levels, supplier performance, procurement trends and cost analysis.
  • Analyse data to support strategic decision-making and operational improvements.
  • Monitor key performance indicators and implement corrective action where required.

Compliance and Risk Management:

  • Ensure compliance with company policies, health and safety standards and relevant legislation.
  • Identify supply chain risks and develop contingency plans to reduce operational disruption.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation for audit and operational purposes.

Leadership and Team Management:

  • Lead, manage and support the supply chain team to ensure high performance and productivity.
  • Provide training, guidance and performance management to team members.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, continuous improvement and operational excellence.

Experience & Qualification

  • National Senior Certificate.
  • Degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Procurement, Operations Management or a related field.
  • 5 to 8 years’ experience in supply chain management within the manufacturing industry.
  • 2 years’ experience in buyers management within the manufacturing industry.
  • Strong knowledge of procurement, inventory control, warehousing and logistics processes.
  • Experience in supplier negotiation and contract management.
  • Must have Syspro qualification and experience.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems and Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and organisational skills.
  • Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
  • Understanding of health and safety requirements within a manufacturing environment.
