Are you detail-oriented, technically minded, and passionate about maintaining high-quality network infrastructure standards? Join our Networks team as a Quality Assurance Officer in Tswhane to play a critical role in ensuring the quality, compliance, and workmanship of Herotel’s fibre and wireless network infrastructure projects.
The key purpose of this role is to conduct on-site quality inspections, monitor construction and maintenance standards, identify non-conformances, and ensure consistent quality execution across fibre, wireless, POP, and fibre-to-tower environments.
What you’ll do
- Inspect new fibre builds including trenching, ducting, cable pulling, jointing, splicing, and civil works to ensure compliance with Herotel standards
- Conduct audits on existing fibre infrastructure, identifying deterioration, non-conformances, and quality concerns across cable routes, chambers, splice enclosures, and duct integrity
- Verify fibre-to-mobile-tower builds against Herotel and tower-owner standards, including civil works, cabling, and terminations
- Inspect Herotel POP sites to ensure compliance with equipment installation, cable management, labelling, rack layouts, power, earthing, and environmental standards
- Log, track, and follow up on fibre and POP defects with relevant internal teams to ensure timely remediation
- Inspect new wireless network construction including tower erection, equipment mounting, antenna alignment, cabling, earthing, and civil works
- Conduct audits on existing wireless infrastructure to identify defects, unsafe conditions, and deviations from standards
- Verify RF cable management, weatherproofing, labelling, antenna mounting, earthing systems, and enclosure standards across wireless sites
- Coordinate with Networks teams to ensure corrective maintenance activities are tracked and resolved effectively
- Verify that all contractors and internal teams comply with approved construction methods, material specifications, and safety standards
- Conduct quality checks on customer installations to ensure fibre and wireless installations meet Herotel quality standards
- Maintain a strong on-site presence during construction and maintenance activities to monitor workmanship and adherence to standards
- Serve as the Herotel quality representative on-site for both contractor and internal project activities
- Liaise with Networks, Planning, and project management teams to align on project-specific quality expectations and handover requirements
- Escalate contractor non-conformances and recurring quality issues to the Operations Executive and project management teams in real time
- Escalate quality concerns identified within internal Herotel activities to the QA Manager for resolution
- Ensure all teams maintain safe, compliant, and organised work environments, including working-at-heights compliance on tower sites
- Verify competency and workmanship standards of specialist subcontractors including tower erection, directional drilling, fibre splicing, and POP installations
- Compile and submit accurate daily and weekly quality inspection reports to project management teams
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, sign-offs, defect logs, and corrective actions on Herotel systems
- Execute operational activity plans according to required speed, quality, cost, safety, and time standards
- Participate in Level-1 MOS meetings and provide feedback on progress, quality concerns, and operational blockers
- Identify operational improvement opportunities and escalate them through the appropriate channels
- Uphold Herotel policies, governance standards, and operational best practices at all times
What you’ll need
- Matric (Grade 12)
- Minimum 2 years’ experience within a fibre or telecommunications construction environment
- Experience in quality assurance, site inspection, or project management support advantageous
- Hands-on experience with fibre network builds including FTTH, FTTB, and FTTX environments advantageous
- Experience with wireless infrastructure including tower builds, microwave links, LTE/5G base stations, or similar environments beneficial
- Familiarity with fibre-to-tower/mobile backhaul projects advantageous
- Experience working in POP environments including cable management, rack installations, labelling standards, and equipment inspections beneficial
- Experience conducting quality audits on live fibre or wireless infrastructure advantageous
- Experience working alongside both internal technical teams and external contractors beneficial
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage effectively across multiple teams and stakeholders
- Ability to work independently on-site with minimal supervision while maintaining high-quality standards
- Strong attention to detail and results-driven mindset
- Ability to work well under pressure in fast-paced construction and maintenance environments
- Analytical thinking and basic problem-solving skills to identify and escalate quality deviations effectively
- Ability to read and interpret network drawings, technical specifications, rack layouts, and site plans
- Resilient, adaptable, and comfortable working across outdoor civil sites, tower environments, and indoor POP facilities
- Basic computer literacy for reporting and system data capture
- Valid driver’s license essential
- Willingness and ability to travel extensively between project sites
- Relevant qualification in Telecommunications, Civil Engineering, Quality Management, Electrical Engineering, or related field advantageous
- Working at Heights certification advantageous
- Project Management certification beneficial
