SUMMARY
POSITION INFO
A leading industry body representing the non-life/short-term insurance sector seeks a seasoned
General Manager to lead both Governance (Policy, Legislation & Regulation) and Transformation. This is a high-profile strategic role requiring deep sector expertise, regulatory acumen, and the ability to drive transformation projects at industry level.
The incumbent will represent the industry with regulators, government, media, and transformation councils, and will sit on internal Exco and Manco, as well as Board Committees.
Requirements
Qualifications
- Degree (relevant field) – essential
- Master’s degree (Finance Sector related) – advantageous
Knowledge (Essential)
- B-BBEE Codes (both old and amended)
- Financial Sector Codes
- Policy, legislation, and regulation within the Financial Sector environment
- Corporate governance
Experience
- 10+ years working with non-life (short-term) insurers or within the non-life/short-term insurance industry
- Proven track record at senior management / GM level
- Experience representing an organisation with regulators (PA, FSCA, NT, DTIC, DoEL, BUSA, FSTC)
Key Responsibilities
- Draft, implement, monitor, and report on industry transformation projects and strategy.
- Identify risks facing the short-term insurance industry and propose industry-level solutions.
- Build and maintain strategic relationships with key stakeholders (regulators, government, industry bodies).
- Lead both Governance (Policy, Legislation, Regulation) and Transformation departments.
- Compile board reports, project status reports, and content for industry publications.
- Act as a media spokesperson (print, radio, television).
- Provide thought leadership on industry initiatives.
- Manage direct reports (performance, guidance, training, counselling).
