About The Role
A leading education and training organisation is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Junior HR / Compliance Officer to support the Human Resources and Compliance functions. This role is responsible for assisting with recruitment, employee relations, payroll administration, performance management, compliance monitoring, and HR record management while ensuring adherence to labour legislation and organisational policies.
The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining a positive workplace culture, supporting staff development initiatives, and ensuring compliance with employment, BBBEE, and POPIA requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Recruitment & Staffing
- Assist with recruitment activities, including job advertising, candidate screening, interview scheduling, and onboarding.
- Conduct qualification verification and background checks.
- Maintain accurate employee records, contracts, qualifications, and employment documentation.
- Support workforce planning and staffing requirements across departments.
Employee Relations & HR Support
- Serve as a point of contact for employee HR-related queries.
- Assist with employee relations matters, grievances, disciplinary processes, and conflict resolution.
- Support employee engagement and wellness initiatives.
- Promote a positive and professional workplace culture.
Training & Performance Management
- Coordinate staff training and professional development programmes.
- Assist with performance review processes and employee development plans.
- Monitor probation periods, contract renewals, and promotion processes.
- Support career development and succession planning initiatives.
Compliance & Policy Administration
- Ensure compliance with labour legislation, company policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Assist with BBBEE and POPIA compliance activities.
- Maintain and update HR policies, procedures, and employee handbooks.
- Prepare HR reports and workforce analytics to support management decision-making.
- Assist with internal and external audits and compliance reviews.
HR Administration & Record Keeping
- Maintain confidential employee records and HR documentation.
- Administer leave records, attendance tracking, and personnel information.
- Support payroll administration and HR system maintenance.
- Monitor fixed-term contracts and ensure timely renewals or terminations.
- Assist with year-end audits and statutory reporting requirements.
- Provide administrative support to the HR / Back Office Manager as required.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
- Diploma in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
Experience
- Minimum 3–5 years' HR administration experience.
- Previous experience within an education, training, or professional services environment will be advantageous.
- Exposure to BBBEE and POPIA compliance requirements is beneficial.
Skills & Knowledge
- Sound knowledge of South African labour legislation and HR best practices.
- Strong understanding of HR administration and employee relations processes.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organisational and multitasking abilities.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Experience with payroll and HR systems will be advantageous.
