The Role
The Plant Utilities Operating Technician will work within the Maintenance service delivery department and company framework to ensure the effective running of utility plants and basic maintenance of equipment.
As a trade-tested artisan, the Plant Utilities Operating Technician’s bulk of the work will be related to mechanical maintenance of the plant and equipment, however in the role of Mechanical Maintenance Technician, the incumbent will also be required to carry out electrical repairs and maintenance as and when required in the preventative maintenance and break down job card system.
As a qualified artisan the incumbent will be required to complete and maintain various records related to statutory requirements as well as internal documentation.
They will also be required to be on standby and to work after hours as and when required.
Keeps work areas in neat order.
To assist line manager with stock keeping, record keeping, capturing & management of quotes.
Will also be required to be trained on GMP practices and regulations.
As a Plant Utilities Operating Technician, you will be required to work in all areas of the company from production to service delivery and have strong attention to detail with regards to Quality Excellence
In This Role Your Responsibilities Will Include
- Daily monitoring of plant operating conditions e.g. Boiler, HVAC, RO Water, NH3 Plant, Chiller Plant, Air Plant, etc; Contribute to plant availability of at least 90%.
- Daily recording of plant data and deviation management/ troubleshooting
- Basic autonomous maintenance of equipment for the utilities plant
- Data recording of energy usage across the Cape Town Plant e.g. Water Usage, Electricity, Effluent measurement
- Control and monitoring of critical plant operations
- Schedule cleaning of Utilities Plant, e.g. RO water CIP and Sanitization, etc.
- Problem solving and root cause analysis for repetitive failures
- Provide recommendation to solve problems for continuous improvement.
- Improve and uphold the 5S standards with the Utilities Plant Areas
- Required to perform shift work, standby and overtime
- Ensure accurate record keeping of utilities plant equipment service logs (book of life)
- Meet KPI’s as per business requirements.
- Comply with all required department and business standard operating procedures.
- Facilities inspection and raise DMS work for resolution
- Custodian for Permit Issuer for the Utilities areas.
- Corrective & Preventative maintenance program recording and completion.
- Implementation of preventative and or corrective measures.
- Participation in problem solving, improvement and or cost saving projects/initiatives.
- Follow work instructions relating to the QMS system.
- Raise requisitions on ERP for purchasing/ordering requirements.
- On time and in full delivery to internal customers.
- Capture hours and work performed on various tasks in detail and with 100% accuracy on DMS job cards.
- Receive quotes, capture and manage process into relevant computerized systems
- Identify improvements & assist in implementation.
- Initiation of non-conformances, SQA’s & completion of forms.
- Train contractors/fellow employees on permit systems and or equipment usage.
- Personal development: Willing to be trained on various processes within BBI and also external training and development relating to job function.
- Required to be trained and self-develop on automation projects and electronic use of tablets for record keeping and or reporting.
- Ensure Health & Safety requirements and standards are met
You Should Apply If
- Minimum of N3, preferably N4 plus
- Technically qualified electrician / mechanical / refrigeration and trade tested with red seal certificate
- Numerous years’ working experience in a maintenance role
- Qualified artisan / technician with a proven track record.
- Experience working in cGMP environment would be an advantage
- Experience with refrigeration maintenance and welding (stainless steel) would be advantageous
- Experience repairing pumps
