About The Role

An established education-focused organisation is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Librarian to support students, lecturers, and researchers by providing access to quality learning resources, information services, and research support.

This role is ideal for a professional who is passionate about education, research, information management, and helping students develop strong academic and referencing skills. The successful candidate will oversee library operations, maintain digital and physical resources, support academic programmes, and promote information literacy within a higher education environment.

Key Responsibilities

Library Operations & Administration

  • Manage the daily operation of the library and ensure efficient service delivery.
  • Maintain library systems, catalogues, databases, and circulation records.
  • Organise, classify, and catalogue library materials according to recognised standards.
  • Monitor library inventory and maintain accurate records.
  • Enforce library policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Manage the acquisition, accessioning, and disposal of library resources.

Collection Development

  • Assist with the selection and acquisition of eBooks, journals, electronic resources, and learning materials.
  • Liaise with academic departments regarding prescribed and recommended resources.
  • Review and update library collections to ensure relevance and currency.
  • Manage subscriptions to electronic databases and online learning platforms.
  • Engage with suppliers regarding prescribed and recommended textbooks and resources.

Student & Academic Support

  • Assist students and staff with research, information retrieval, writing, referencing, and academic resource searches.
  • Provide training on library systems, online databases, and digital resources.
  • Promote information literacy and academic research skills.
  • Guide users in the use of referencing styles, citation tools, and research methodologies.
  • Support students with English language skills and the formatting of academic assignments using Microsoft Word.

Digital Resources & Technology

  • Manage electronic library systems and digital repositories.
  • Support access to eBooks, e-journals, online databases, and digital learning tools.
  • Assist users with library technologies and digital platforms.
  • Ensure library equipment and systems function effectively.

Reporting & Compliance

  • Prepare library usage reports and training statistics.
  • Ensure compliance with copyright legislation and licensing agreements.
  • Support accreditation and quality assurance processes related to library services.
  • Participate in institutional meetings and committees when required.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Library and Information Science or a related field.
  • Postgraduate qualification in Library and Information Science will be advantageous.

Experience

  • 2–5 years' experience in a library environment.
  • Previous experience within a higher education institution will be highly advantageous.
  • Experience working with library management systems, electronic databases, and digital resources.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Strong research and information management skills.
  • Knowledge of library classification systems and cataloguing standards.
  • Excellent English verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organisational and administrative abilities.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Understanding of academic research and higher education environments.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Microsoft Word.
  • Familiarity with referencing tools and citation styles.
