SUMMARY

Job Purpose

  • The company is seeking an experienced COBOL / Mainframe Developer to support and enhance business-critical legacy systems within a financial services environment. This role will focus on stability, enhancements, and integration with modern platforms

POSITION INFO

Key Requirements (Non-Negotiable)

  • 5+ years COBOL development experience (recent, hands-on)
  • Strong experience in mainframe environments (IBM z/OS)
  • Proven experience with: COBOL / ACUCOBOL

Experience

  • Experience working on Employee benefits, retirement funds, core transactional systems (banking, insurance, policy admin, payments)
  • Ability to analyse, maintain, and enhance existing legacy codebases and have strong troubleshooting and production support experience

Highly Advantageous

  • Batch processing and high-volume transaction systems

Exposure to

  • Modernisation/integration projects (API, .NET, Java, cloud)
  • Experience working in Agile delivery environments
  • Prior experience in financial services (banking or insurance)

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and enhance COBOL-based systems supporting critical business functions
  • Analyse business requirements and translate into technical solutions
  • Support production incidents, defect resolution, and system improvements
  • Participate in impact analysis, testing, and release cycles
  • Collaborate with BAs, architects, and cross-functional teams
  • Contribute to modernisation initiatives where applicable
  • Strong attention to detail (critical in COBOL environments)
  • Able to work with minimal supervision on legacy systems
  • Comfortable working in complex, highly regulated environments
  • Strong communication skills (ability to engage business + technical stakeholders)
