Siqalo Foods is seeking a Assistant Packaging Manager to join their Spreads Division. The role will be based in Boksburg and will report to the Packaging Development Manager.
The Assistant Packaging Manager will be responsible for operationalizing packaging innovation and delivery to arrive at an approved packaging specification with supporting documentation to enable launch. Provide support to Packaging Manager in the R&D team through testing feasibility and capability of new innovations, renovations cost-initiative and sustainability projects.
Duties & Responsibilities
Packaging Development
- Lead packaging projects, providing technical skills, advice, and continuous feedback.
- Coordinate with suppliers for samples, costings, timings, and specifications.
- Prepare and test hand samples, presenting data to the team.
- Conduct factory trials to establish feasibility.
- Focus on packaging quality improvements, cost reduction, and innovation.
Packaging Troubleshooting
- Collaborate with Process and Equipment Managers, Site Managers, and Business Unit Managers for effective packaging delivery and troubleshooting.
Support for Packaging Innovation
- Drive continuous improvement and collaborate with stakeholders to achieve targets.
- Conduct feasibility trials for innovative packaging ideas.
- Integrate environmental responsibility into packaging development.
Packaging Governance
- Input packaging information into project teams, systems, and HACCP studies.
- Ensure confidentiality and compliance with Total Quality Management Systems.
- Report non-compliance and maintain awareness of employee relations.
Administrative Support
- Gather data and complete administrative documentation for projects.
- Execute packaging specifications and documentation through business systems.
- Attend project meetings and manage supplier networks.
- Obtain costings and resolve supplier issues.
- Deliver required documentation for project progression and final delivery.
- Manage artwork sign-off and ensure quality of first production runs.
- Collect and confirm information for product listings.

Minimum Requirements
Diploma or Degree in Food Technology / Food Science.
Packaging Diploma advantageous.
Minimum 5 years’ experience in Packaging and operational execution.
