About The Position
ALS Chemex is seeking a Shipping & Receiving Coordinator to join our team based at our Johannesburg Lab. In this role, you will be the driving force behind coordinating all aspects of inbound and outbound shipments for all our laboratories across the Africa Region. You will play a pivotal role in consolidating and cross-docking shipments coming into the JB lab and efficiently routing them out to other ALS destinations across the continent.
Key Responsibilities
As our Shipping & Receiving Coordinator, your day-to-day will involve:
- Logistics & Coordination: Managing the flow of goods moving in and out of the warehouse, ensuring all intercontinental shipments are scheduled and completed without delay, and swiftly resolving any queries.
- Receiving & Inspection: Unloading incoming items, verifying shipments against invoices, inspecting for damage, and ensuring all receiving records are perfectly accurate and complete.
- Documentation & Compliance: Creating essential shipping documents (including weighing, labels, and picking slips) and ensuring the proper handling and certification of dangerous goods (TDG).
- Inventory & Systems: Entering data accurately during the receiving process, updating stock levels, maintaining precise records, and actively assisting with cycle counts and audits.
- Collaboration & Efficiency: Coordinating closely with drivers, suppliers, carriers, and internal procurement staff to keep the supply chain running seamlessly, while actively identifying cost-saving and waste-reduction opportunities.
- Operations & Safety: Operating forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment safely while strictly adhering to warehouse safety procedures and maintaining a clean workspace.
To Be Successful In This Role, You Will Need
- Experience: A minimum of 3 years of hands-on warehouse and logistics experience.
- Education: Matric / Grade 12 coupled with a Logistics Management Certificate.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, strong data entry skills, and experience with inventory software (experience with SAP will be highly advantageous).
- Licenses & Safety: A valid forklift license is required, along with a solid working knowledge of Health, Safety & Environmental legislation.
- Physical Capabilities: Ability to lift heavy items, possess good manual dexterity, and be comfortable with extensive walking/movement, bending, kneeling, and working around machinery, pallets, and wooden crates.
