Purpose

We're searching for a passionate Junior IT Compliance Office to join our Cape Town team! You'll help safeguard our organization's sensitive data, ensuring regulatory compliance, and mitigating risks. You will identify and address security vulnerabilities, implement effective controls, and provide guidance on compliance matters.

In essence, you will check that our computer systems are secure, that our employees know how to protect sensitive information, and that we're doing business with reliable partners. With you part of our team, you will assist us to protect our company's reputation, avoid legal issues, and keep our customers' data safe.

Responsibilities of the Role

Regulatory Compliance:

  • Build and maintain an understanding of relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards (e.g., GDPR, CIS, PCI DSS, ISO27001:2022 and SOC2).
  • Assess the organization's compliance with these regulations.
  • Maintain compliance policies and procedures.
  • Conduct regular compliance audits to identify and address any gaps.
  • Provide guidance to employees on compliance matters.

Internal Controls:

  • Assess the effectiveness of internal controls to safeguard sensitive data.
  • Identify and address security vulnerabilities.

Risk Management:

  • Identify and assess IT-related risks.
  • Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies.
  • Monitor and manage risks on an ongoing basis.

Vendor Management:

  • Evaluate the security practices of third-party vendors.
  • Ensure that vendors comply with the organization's security requirements.
  • Manage vendor relationships and contracts.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Provide training to employees on compliance and security awareness.
  • Report to senior management on compliance status and risks.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure compliance with IT-related regulations.
  • Prepare and present reports and metrics to senior management.
  • Stay up to date on the latest security threats and trends to proactively mitigate risks.
  • Participate in other Information Security related tasks.

Requirements of the Role

  • Education: Diploma or related qualification in Information Technology
  • Certifications: Relevant certifications such as CISM, CIPP, or other industry-recognized certifications would be beneficial.
  • Experience in IT compliance, information security, or risk management.

Knowledge and Abilities

  • An understanding of IT infrastructure, including networks, systems, and applications.
  • Knowledge of security frameworks and standards (e.g., ISO 27001, PCI and SOC2) helpful.
  • Experience in using compliance and security tools (e.g., vulnerability scanners and GRC platforms).
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a1 team
  • Understanding of common security vulnerabilities and risks, as well as countermeasures and compensating controls.
  • Understanding of application and cloud and other security frameworks such as ISO27001, CIS, and NIST CSF.
  • Ability to prioritize and successfully complete tasks while working under pressure in a fast paced environment.
  • Strong critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
