Job Overview: Bespoke Portfolio Manager
Overview & Purpose
The primary focus of this role is to service bespoke clients. This involves full-lifecycle portfolio management, including stock analysis, strategic construction, and ongoing maintenance of investment mandates.
A secondary, yet important, component of the role involves addressing multi-asset class queries from the advising team.
- Reporting Relationship: Head of Equities, Portfolio Managers, and the Chief Investment Officer.
- Date of Specification: May 2026.
Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities
- Bespoke Mandate Management: Monitor existing invested bespoke mandates against their stated objectives, suggest asset adjustments to the lead portfolio manager, and source/value new companies to integrate into these portfolios.
- Client Relations & Presentation: Directly present portfolio positioning and performance metrics to bespoke clients while providing insights into current local and global market conditions.
- Advisor Queries & Servicing: Collaborative response management for inbound advisor queries spanning multiple asset teams (including fixed income, equity, and real return solutions). Over time, the candidate is expected to handle these independently.
- Portfolio Transitions: Facilitate the transition of individual stock portfolios from external providers into the firm''s internal funds.
Candidate Requirements
- Education & Experience
- Minimum Qualification: At least an Honours degree.
- Advantageous Credentials: Postgraduate designations such as a CFA or CA.
- Experience Level: Must have proven market and investment experience with an immediate ability to analyze portfolio companies, construct bespoke strategies, and navigate asset class dynamics ("hit the ground running").
- Technical & Tools Competency
- Excel: Advanced/Strong skills are strictly required.
- Bloomberg Terminal: Foundational knowledge or familiarity is highly helpful for data extraction and system-based tasks.
- Core Competencies & Knowledge
- Market Acumen: Deep understanding of financial markets across both global and local spectrums.
- Technical Skillset: Strong background in investment valuations and research capabilities.
- Cognitive Skills: Analytical ability, strong reasoning, and an aptitude for lateral ("out of the box") thinking.
