Shift Pursuit is excited to announce an opportunity for a Theatre Trained Registered Nurse to join a dynamic theatre team in Paarl, Western Cape. This role focuses on delivering high-quality, competent nursing care within a fast-paced theatre environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing theatres for surgical procedures, scrubbing and assisting during operations, maintaining strict infection prevention standards, and ensuring the highest level of patient safety throughout the peri-operative journey. The position reports directly to the Unit Manager: Theatre.
- Prepare theatre and surgical equipment for procedures.
- Scrub and assist Surgeons during operations.
- Provide direct assistance to Surgeons and Anaesthetists during surgical procedures.
- Ensure all surgical instruments, consumables, and equipment are available and functioning correctly.
- Maintain strict aseptic techniques and infection control standards.
- Perform surgical counts in accordance with theatre protocols.
- Monitor and advocate for patient safety throughout surgical procedures.
- Assist with theatre stock control and equipment management.
- Participate in quality improvement and risk management initiatives.
- Ensure accurate patient documentation and theatre records.
- Support multidisciplinary teams to ensure efficient theatre flow.
- Manage the sterile field and surgical instrumentation throughout procedures.
- Provide professional nursing care throughout the peri-operative patient journey.
- Supervise and guide Enrolled Nurses and auxiliary theatre personnel where appropriate.
- Minimum 2–3 years' theatre scrubbing experience.
- Experience in Ophthalmology theatre cases will be highly advantageous.
- Exposure to Orthopaedics, ENT, General Surgery, Gynaecology, Plastics, Dental, Maxillofacial and Urology procedures.
- Sound knowledge of infection prevention and control practices.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Willingness to participate in after-hours call rosters when required.
