Commercial Lines Underwriter

This role requires strong technical underwriting expertise, the ability to analyse complex risks, and a commitment to delivering exceptional service to brokers and clients.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess, analyse, and underwrite commercial insurance risks in accordance with company underwriting guidelines
• Evaluate new business, renewals, and policy amendments
• Determine appropriate premiums, terms, and conditions based on risk exposure
• Ensure compliance with internal underwriting standards and regulatory requirements
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date client and policy records
• Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers, clients, and internal stakeholders
• Provide technical underwriting guidance and support to relevant teams
• Monitor portfolio performance and recommend corrective actions where necessary
• Assist in claims-related queries and provide underwriting input when required
• Contribute to retention strategies and support business development initiatives

Key Requirements

• Minimum 4–6 years’ experience in Commercial Underwriting
• Relevant insurance qualification (FAIS compliant; RE5 preferred)
• Strong knowledge of commercial lines products and underwriting principles
• Proven ability to assess and manage complex risks
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
• Strong communication and relationship management abilities
• High level of attention to detail and accuracy
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and underwriting systems
