SUMMARY
Maintenance Assistant
Location: Port Elizabeth
Contract Position
POSITION INFO
The Maintenance Assistant is responsible for assisting with the maintenance of machinery, tools, equipment and infrastructure to ensure optimal production uptime and safety compliance.
Although this position may be based at the main
production plant, the incumbent must be prepared to perform maintenance functions at the other plants as and when required
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine inspections on production equipment
- Perform basic routine preventative maintenance functions
- Assist with general maintenance and repair of machinery and tools
- Assist with mechanical, electrical and hydraulic repairs
- Tooling maintenance, including cleaning, storage, and minor repairs.
- Assist with maintenance, repairs and upkeep of equipment
- Assist with maintenance, repairs and upkeep of infrastructure
- Assist with maintenance, repairs and upkeep of vehicles
- Assist with installation and commissioning of new equipment
- Compliance with health and safety and housekeeping standards
- Always wear PPE (gloves, goggles, apron, shield when required).
- Handle tools safely, following standard guidelines and company
procedures.
- Maintain a clean and safe working environment.
- Comply with all workplace safety and environmental regulations
- Collaboration & Communication
- Escalate machine, equipment and other technical failures and/or
downtime immediately to the maintenance manager.
- Keep colleagues informed and up to date with mean time to repair.
- Keep and update a maintenance log
Requirements
- Matric (Grade 12) (preferably a technical Grade 12)
- N3 – N6 certificate preferable / advantageous
Experience , skills and knowledge :
- 1 to 2 years in a manufacturing or industrial maintenance
environment.
- Exposure to manufacturing processes
- Mechanical and electrical skills
- Welding and fabrication skills (qualified welder preferred)
- Knowledge of and ability to use power tools
- Sound verbal and written communications skills
- Knowledge of health and safety procedures and protocols
- Good eye / hand co - ordination
- Ability to work at heights and confined spaces
- Ability to lift and handle materials and tools (physical fitness)
- Valid driver’s licence would be advantageous
- Basic computer literacy would be advantageous
- Must be willing and able to work shifts and/or overtime , and move between the different plants to perform maintenance functions
