PURPOSE OF THE JOB: The Social Performance Head is responsible for leading the Social Performance Strategy for Impala Rustenburg Operations (IRO), ensuring alignment with Group Strategy, policies, procedures, best practices, and implementation plans. The role focuses on enhancing social performance, mitigating social risks, maintaining the social license to operate, and creating shared value within key social performance areas. This includes the successful delivery of all related legislative requirements and overall compliance reporting, such as the Social and Labour Plan (SLP), Mining Charter, and BBBEE Act.
Minimum Qualifications And Requirements
- Grade 12 or NQF equivalent 4 is essential
- B Degree in Community Development, Sociology, Humanities, Legal, Environment, Finance, Economics, Urban Planning or Engineering is essential.
- Project Management Qualification is desirable
- Post graduate degree in a developmental discipline – such as Community Development, Sustainability, Sociology, Development Finance, Development Economics is desirable.
- A minimum of 10 years' working in a mining or resources environment working with community development and managing the function for at least 4 years is essential.
- Relevant project management experience in managing community development projects within the mining or similar industries is essential.
- Relevant experience in designing and managing social improvement projects, compiling social profiles and social impact assessments is essential.
- Relevant experience in facilitating multi-stakeholder engagement sessions.
- Operational (working with local/traditional communities and municipality).
- 15 years working in a mining or resources environment working with community development and managing the function for at least 5 years is desirable.

- Expert knowledge of socio-economic development methodologies and processes
- Knowledge of contracts management of suppliers within SLP/community development disciplines
- Deep knowledge and experience in stakeholder engagement and related processes
- Minerals and Petroleum Resources Development Act of 2004 (MPRDA)

Key Performance Areas
- Participate in the formulation of the Group's Social Strategy as part of the Group's Social Performance Partitioners incorporating the broader IRO insights and requirements.
- Ensure Social and Labour Plan (SLP) guidelines and processes are followed to support SLP execution and meeting of targets to ensure compliance and sustainability of SLP initiatives. Provide inputs to Group to improve SLP processes given local, on-the-ground insights.
- Manage, consolidate and check DMPR audits. Close any gaps that might be required.
- Manage the overall performance, development and discipline of the Social Performance Department.
- Oversee the design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the community development programmes or projects.
- Guide IRO community health and wellbeing initiatives and targets and ensure alignment with SDGs and relevant Group and geographical requirements. Work with various IRO departments to ensure initiatives align with the broader Group and IRO Social Performance Strategy.
- Guide and work with the IRO education and HRD leads and practitioners to ensure community education and skills development initiatives and targets are aligned with regulatory, Group and/or SDGs, as relevant to geographical requirements.
- Guide and work with ESD and Inclusive Procurement leads and practitioners to ensure the development of resilient SMMEs in our value chain and beyond also supporting SMMEs outside the mine value chain to build self-sustaining communities.
- Guide and work with operations (North, South and Central) to ensure that resilient infrastructure is delivered and/or upgraded and/or maintained to support of our community well-being, educational and inclusive growth goals.
- Prepare Social Performance and SLP papers for the IRO Social and Ethics Committee, IRO Board, the Group's Social, Transformation and Remuneration Committee and ensure matters arising are addressed.
- Provide inputs to the verification and assurance studies on social performance projects as agreed by Implats' and IRO's Exco, Board and its relevant subcommittees.
- Provide input into and consolidate other departmental inputs, working with Finance and Group on the business plan process for IRO's Social Performance business plan.
