SUMMARY

Bilnor Staffing Solutions’ client in Mkhondo/Piet Retief is seeking a Health and Safety Officer to join their operations team.

South African Citizens and those living in the area will be preferred

POSITION INFO

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s Degree or National Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health, or a related field.
  • Valid SAMTRAC or NOSA certification (advantageous).

Experience

  • 4–5 years’ hands-on experience as a Health and Safety Officer, preferably in both Forestry and Mining environments.
  • Strong understanding of safety protocols in high-risk, remote, or environmentally sensitive work sites.
  • Proven experience conducting risk assessments, incident investigations, audits, and implementing corrective actions.

Key Skills & Competencies

  • Excellent knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act and other relevant South African HSE legislation.
  • Ability to compile and implement Health and Safety Plans, Method Statements, and Risk Assessments.
  • Strong communication and training skills to conduct toolbox talks and safety inductions.
  • Familiarity with PPE requirements and hazardous materials handling in forestry and mining.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage emergency situations calmly and effectively.
  • Computer literate – MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and safety reporting systems.
  • Inform all managers of Medicals and Training Certificates expiring expire.
  • Audit Safety File. (Load Testing, Fire Extinguishers Services, Safety training etc.) for all other Areas
  • Draft and Review WSWPs.
  • Review HSE Policies and Plans.

SHE Committee Meeting Minutes and Agenda. (All Areas)

  • Compile All Sites Incident Registers monthly.
  • Update PPE Register
  • Update Safety File Monthly
  • Submit Incident Investigations to PG Bison
  • Submit IOD’s and follow up on medical rwports
  • Ensure all sites have a valid up to date compliant health and safety file.
  • Conduct quarterly audits on sites.
  • Ensure H&S committee is operational.
  • Conduct annual baseline risk assessments per site.
  • Ensure compliance and training.
  • KPI measurements and Performance review.

Other Requirements

  • Valid Driver’s License (Code B/08 minimum).
  • Medically fit.
  • Willingness to travel and work irregular hours if required.
