Position Overview
We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented
Paint Shop Operations Specialist / Stock Controller to oversee paint inventory, warehouse operations, stock management, and distribution activities within a fast-paced manufacturing or automotive environment. The successful candidate will ensure optimal stock levels, accurate inventory control, efficient warehouse processes, and compliance with health, safety, and quality standards.
This role requires strong operational planning skills, inventory management expertise, and the ability to coordinate effectively with procurement, production, sales, and logistics teams.
Key Responsibilities Inventory & Stock Control
- Maintain accurate stock records for paints, consumables, chemicals, equipment, and warehouse materials.
- Monitor stock levels and initiate replenishment requests to avoid shortages.
- Conduct regular stock counts, cycle counts, and annual inventory audits.
- Investigate and resolve stock discrepancies and variances.
- Ensure proper stock rotation and inventory management practices.
- Manage stock receiving, inspection, and verification processes.
- Track slow-moving, obsolete, and damaged stock.
Warehouse Operations
- Oversee daily warehouse activities, including receiving, storage, picking, packing, and dispatch.
- Ensure efficient warehouse layout and space utilization.
- Maintain organized storage areas and stock locations.
- Coordinate deliveries and collections with logistics providers.
- Monitor warehouse productivity and operational efficiency.
- Ensure timely dispatch of customer and internal orders.
Paint Shop Operations
- Manage paint inventory usage and consumption tracking.
- Coordinate paint mixing requirements and material availability.
- Monitor paint stock levels against production schedules.
- Ensure compliance with paint handling and storage regulations.
- Maintain records of paint batches, usage, and quality control requirements.
- Assist with process improvements and waste reduction initiatives.
Procurement & Supplier Coordination
- Work closely with procurement teams regarding stock requirements.
- Assist in supplier performance monitoring and stock forecasting.
- Follow up on outstanding purchase orders and deliveries.
- Support negotiations for stock replenishment and inventory planning.
Reporting & Administration
- Generate inventory, stock movement, and warehouse performance reports.
- Maintain accurate records on ERP, warehouse, or inventory management systems.
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly operational reports.
- Analyze inventory trends and recommend improvements.
- Ensure all documentation is completed accurately and on time.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with occupational health and safety regulations.
- Adhere to hazardous material handling procedures.
- Maintain warehouse housekeeping and safety standards.
- Participate in safety audits and risk assessments.
- Ensure proper storage and disposal of paint products and chemicals.
Minimum Requirements Education
- Grade 12 (Matric) essential.
- Diploma or Certificate in Supply Chain, Logistics, Warehouse Management, Inventory Control, or related field advantageous.
Experience
- 3–5 years' experience in stock control, warehouse operations, or inventory management.
- Experience within paint manufacturing, automotive, coatings, industrial products, or related industries preferred.
- Proven experience managing inventory and warehouse processes.
- Experience using ERP or warehouse management systems.
Technical Skills
- Strong inventory control and stock management knowledge.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and inventory software.
- Understanding of warehouse and logistics processes.
- Knowledge of paint products, chemicals, or industrial consumables advantageous.
