PURPOSE OF THE JOB: To safely design, install, fault, find, repair and maintain instrumentation and IT equipment and infrastructure.

Minimum Qualifications And Requirements

  • Grade 12 or NQF Level 4 is essential
  • Instrumentation Trade Certificate and NQF 5 Certificate is essential OR
  • Instrumentation/Electrical Engineer Diploma (NQF 6 equivalent) is essential
  • 3 years Instrument Mechanician experience or practical's complemented Higher Learning Qualification if from University of Technology
  • Valid Medical Certificate is essential or be medically fit to obtain such a certificate

Competencies

  • Demonstrate knowledge pertaining to basic health and safety principles in the workplace
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the Principles of Process Control Loops
  • Demonstrate an understanding of and maintain equipment associated with final control elements
  • Demonstrate an understanding of basic Programmable Logic Controllers
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the principles of installing Instrumentation Equipment
  • Demonstrate an understanding of fault-finding techniques on field instrumentation
  • Demonstrate an understanding of preventative maintenance, environmental and safety issues in a computer environment
  • Demonstrate an understanding of different computer network architectures and standards
  • Apply problem solving strategies
  • Apply the principles of PLC Programming
  • Read and interpret instrumentation drawings

Key Performance Areas

  • Conducts fault-finding according on process equipment using special testing equipment.
  • Designs, compiles/converts PLC Software Programmes.
  • De-bugs or troubleshoots PLC Software Programmes.
  • Installs Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC`s), Equipment associated with Final Control Elements.
  • Fault-finds and repairs Equipment (Flow; Level; Pressure; Temperature; Analytical).
  • Installs and configures multi-user networked operating systems.
  • Installs and commissions local area computer networks.
  • Provides relevant support to stakeholders to ensure team objectives are achieved.
  • Adheres to safety regulations and mine standards, procedures and practices and reports non-compliance.
