We are seeking an experienced and driven Gland Packing Specialist to join our team and drive the growth of our gland packing product portfolio throughout Southern Africa.

Role Purpose

The Gland Packing Specialist will serve as the technical expert and business development lead for KLINGER’s gland packing solutions. The successful candidate will work closely with customers to identify sealing challenges, provide application support, conduct site assessments, recommend appropriate solutions, and grow market share through strategic customer engagement.

This role combines technical engineering expertise, problem-solving, customer engagement, and commercial sales responsibility.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Support & Application Engineering
Conduct on-site assessments of pumps, valves, mixers, agitators, and rotating equipment.
Diagnose sealing failures and identify root causes of leakage and packing performance issues.
Recommend suitable gland packing materials and installation practices based on operating conditions.
Conduct product trials, application audits, and performance evaluations.
Provide technical training and product support to customers and internal teams.
Compile technical reports and recommendations following site visits.
Business Development & Sales
Develop and grow gland packing sales across key industrial sectors.
Identify new opportunities within existing customer accounts and target new customers.
Promote KLINGER gland packing solutions and associated sealing products.
Conduct customer presentations, technical workshops, and product demonstrations.
Prepare quotations, technical proposals, and tender submissions.
Build and maintain strong relationships with engineers, maintenance managers, reliability teams, and procurement personnel.
Market Development
Monitor competitor activity and industry trends.
Identify opportunities for product expansion and market growth.
Assist in developing strategic plans to increase market share.
Work closely with internal sales, operations, and manufacturing teams to ensure customer requirements are met.

Minimum Requirements

Mechanical Engineering qualification, Mechanical Trade, or equivalent technical qualification.
Minimum 5 years’ experience in:

Gland Packing

Mechanical Seals

Rotating Equipment

Pumps and Valves

Industrial Maintenance

Reliability Engineering

Technical Sales

Proven experience within mining, petrochemical, power generation, manufacturing, pulp and paper, or related industrial sectors.
Valid driver's licence and willingness to travel extensively.

Experience with

Mechanical seals
Reliability engineering
Condition monitoring
Root Cause Analysis (RCA)
Pump and valve maintenance
Shutdown planning and execution
Existing customer relationships within heavy industry.
Knowledge of sealing technologies and fluid handling equipment.
