Maintenance Technician

Main Purpose

  • The Technician will be required to adhere to all relevant requirements, policies, procedures, and legal regulations pertaining to occupational health, safety, environmental, quality and other regulations as required by Bayer Nigel and relevant to the level of the role and responsibilities of the function.
  • The position of maintenance technician; is to maximize plant availability through maintaining operational integrity of the plant equipment, to achieve production targets and proper functionality of the equipment/machinery.
  • You will be responsible for providing the highest quality of service, the up time of the equipment and ensure all services provided are performed within a safe and timely manner. Job purpose is to maintain, repair, modify and install/dismantle site equipment in the facility.

Key Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance tasks on machinery as per schedules.
  • Ensures the operability, reliability, and integrity of the assigned assets .
  • Manages the maintenance activities related to inspection, repairs, and turn-arounds of the assigned assets; initiates, monitors and tracks work orders in her/his area of responsibility.
  • Conduct general building repairs and maintenance (site service).
  • Analyze plant failure modes and investigate causes for repeat failures to identify and correct root causes.
  • Provide assistance to external contractors and/or service providers.
  • Maintain accurate records of job cards and spares.
  • Define and ensure adequate strategic spares stock levels.
  • Takes part in plant optimization trials, providing advice, assistance and guidance where required.
  • Ensure compliance to procedures critical to the safeguarding of equipment, ensuring that a safe environment is provided for all Bayer employees engaged in the operation of machinery.
  • Takes part continuous improvement opportunities identified by the production teams or engineering support.
  • Observes technical rules and regulations and implements technical best practices.
  • Keeps and updates the technical documentation and records.
  • Adhere to Occupational health and safety requirements in line with Bayer policy.

  • Reports to Maintenance Manager
  • Country / country group leadership team, Commercial (incl. customer squads), Marketing, Regulatory, Finance & Controlling teams
  • Country SCM/CS team
  • Regional Planning, Distribution, Customer Service, Data and Digital and other regional misión teams
  • Site logistics/plant planners, Quality teams, HSE and Procurement
  • Associations & local authorities

Qualifications & Competencies

  • N3 minimum level of qualification plus trade tested artisan status (Qualified artisan).
  • N4 in Millwright is preferred.
  • At least 5 years experience in a Mechanical/Electrical Engineering Workshop.
  • Sound knowledge and experience in the type of machinery he/she is required to work on it.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment – maintenance or production.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
  • Strong technical competencies; good communication skills; good knowledge of technical tools and software.
  • Proficiency in SAP or similar CMMS systems – advantageous.
