Senior Java Developer

Our client is seeking a Senior Java Developer to join their established technology team in Stellenbosch, Cape Town. This role offers the opportunity to work on high-volume enterprise systems, contribute to the development of innovative solutions, and provide technical leadership within a collaborative environment. The successful candidate will play a key role in system enhancement, integration projects, and mentoring fellow developers.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the technical integration of new clients into existing systems
• Design, develop, and implement new functionality and system enhancements
• Perform development testing and quality assurance activities
• Maintain and support existing applications and services
• Investigate and resolve complex technical issues and provide 3rd line support
• Conduct system security reviews and participate in audit processes
• Contribute to the improvement of development methodologies and best practices
• Mentor junior and intermediate developers while providing technical leadership
• Collaborate with stakeholders to deliver scalable and reliable software solutions

Requirements

• Tertiary qualification in Software Development, Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent
• Minimum 8 years of software development experience
• Strong Java development experience across Standard and Enterprise Editions
• Proven experience with Spring Boot
• Solid SQL experience with MS SQL Server and/or PostgreSQL
• Experience with Maven, Git, Eclipse, or NetBeans
• Experience working within continuous integration and testing environments
• Understanding of OpenAPI protocols
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities
• Excellent communication and leadership skills

Advantageous Experience

• Financial transaction processing systems
• High-volume, multi-threaded real-time systems
• Postilion development (source/sink node development)
• Agile methodologies including Scrum and Kanban
• Front-end development using Angular
