As Financial Accountant, you will play critical role in ensuring the accuracy and reliability of financial data and reporting processes whilst adhering to regional compliance and reporting requirements [including audits and local filings].

Your role involves working closely with the finance team to maintain detailed ledgers, monitor financial data, and prepare accurate reports and external reporting. The priority for this role is to support the monthly close process, manage cash flow reporting, and ensure compliance with financial regulations and standards.

You will work within the Global Finance Team, working closely with the Operations Teams on shared projects and objectives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Financial Analysis and Reporting

  • Contribute to the monthly close process for global business entities, including preparation of monthly schedules, journals, and analytical reviews.
  • Self-reviewing monthly accounts and proactively adjusting as required.
  • Perform balance sheet reconciliations and liaise with local accountants to ensure accurate financial data.
  • Prepare VAT returns and manage corporate member schemes.
  • Conduct intercompany reconciliations and oversee subsidiary funding.
  • Manage monthly bank closures, including revaluations.
  • Maintain asset registers and account for depreciation monthly.
  • Oversee prepayments and accruals.
  • Manage credit card reconciliations and accounts payable functions.

External Audits and Filings

  • Take ownership of, and oversee all local filing requirements, ensuring all audits and submissions are completed within the required timeframes.
  • Liaise with other members of the finance team to ensure all external submissions are made timeously to allow for timeous audit completion and local filings.

Cash Flow Management

  • Improve and maintain the cash flow tool for global regions.
  • Own and manage regional cash flow forecasts.
  • Document cash flow variances against budgets where these are true variances that warrant the attention of the Group Financial Controller.
  • Deliver cash flow reports and ensure banking controls are adhered to.
  • Own and manage regional payables process, ensuring timeous payment of suppliers and staff with supporting statement reconciliations as applicable.

Payroll and Compliance

  • Process payroll for relevant entities, including payments, journal entries, and reconciliations.
  • Submit payroll-related documentation to authorities.
  • Ensure compliance with local and international financial regulations.
  • Support the finance team during audits and prepare necessary deliverables.
  • Collaborate with local management and the global finance team.

Other Responsibilities

  • Support the Head of Accounting and Group Financial Controller in ad-hoc projects as required.
  • Drive automation within the regional accounting processes, taking ownership of process improvements.

Requirements

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

You should have a professional qualification such as ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent. Strong analytical and mathematical skills are essential. Experience in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines is preferred. Knowledge of payroll processes and financial systems is beneficial. Proficiency in Excel and experience with financial reporting tools are required.

  • Record of success in Financial Accountant roles managing end-to-end financial processes.
  • Knowledge and expertise in financial reporting, analysis, and compliance.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive improvements in financial accuracy and efficiency.
  • Ability to promote best practices in financial management and reporting.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Experience in working with global teams to support financial operations.
  • Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Proficiency in advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Power Query knowledge preferred
  • Passion for automation and building efficient processes
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to interpret complex financial data and communicate findings effectively to non-financial stakeholders
  • An analytical mind, keen eye for detail and desire to probe further into data
  • Deliver to tight deadlines, for example, month end closures

Guidelines for Hybrid/Home Office

  • This role is Cape Town–based and requires candidates to commute to the office at least 2 days per week. Please note this is a non-negotiable requirement.
  • A secure home office at your confirmed address, free from background noise or other distractions when working remotely
  • Internet service must meet minimum requirements and minimum speed check must be completed
