Design Technologist

ARRCC

Design Technologist | ARRCC Interior Architecture

Remote Work Anywhere in South Africa | Full-time | Production / Technical Design Support Role

We are looking for a technically strong, detail-driven

Design Technologist to join our Interior Architecture team. Someone who enjoys working at the intersection of design, documentation and buildability.

The Role

The Design Technologist fills a production role that primarily supports the design team in driving interior architecture projects. This role is focused on translating and developing designs into functional, detailed and logical components, drawings and design packs.

Working under a Supervisor / Sub-Team Leader / Team Leader, the Design Technologist will liaise with ARRCC project members, architects, contractors and suppliers to uphold ARRCC systems and deliver technically sound, thoroughly developed documentation.

This is a role for someone who understands that great design does not stop at the concept stage. It needs to be resolved, documented, coordinated and developed with accuracy, logic and care. You will help bridge the space between creative design intent and technical execution, ensuring that beautiful ideas are translated into clear, buildable and well-considered drawing packages.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Documentation & Drawing Production

You will support project teams with technical detailing and drawing production across both presentation and coordination material. This includes producing plans, sections, elevations, schedules and details that clearly communicate interior design information.

A key part of the role will involve driving

Revit development, handling consultant input and coordinating with external teams during DD phases to produce the required drawings and presentations. You will also import and convert CAD drawings into Revit, assist with model set-ups from time to time, and perform other Revit-related duties as assigned by your direct supervisor.

You should be confident in producing and navigating complex Revit models, with the ability to develop design presentations and drawing packs into technically accurate, functional drawings.

Design Translation & Technical Thinking

This role requires a clear understanding of design intent and the ability to interpret designs critically. You will help translate creative concepts into logical, detailed and functional components, ensuring that the design is not only visually strong but technically resolved.

You will need to maintain an adequate knowledge of construction methods, materials and high-level construction detailing to ensure the original design intent is protected through ongoing development.

At times, the role may require involvement in the design stages of projects; however, the main weight of the position will sit in helping to produce and guide the production stages of projects, including drawing standards, drawing volume and accurately developed drawing sets.

Systems, Standards & Document Management

You will be expected to have a thorough knowledge of, and comply with, all ARRCC systems, naming conventions, standards and procedures. You will also contribute to continuous improvement within the department by helping uphold and refine technical and production processes.

You must be comfortable working within a structured document management system and take accountability for maintaining that system accurately and consistently.

Collaboration & Coordination

You will work closely with ARRCC project members, designers, Team Leaders, Project Managers, architects, contractors, consultants and suppliers. The role also includes collaboration with ARRCC ID (Interior Decor) and SAOTA on shared Revit models.

Strong communication and time management are essential, as you will need to ensure that deadlines are continuously met and that project teams are kept informed, aligned and supported.

Team Support, Mentorship & Training

You will be expected to be flexible and forthcoming in supporting Team Leaders and designers to achieve deadlines. The role also requires the ability to provide technical insight across multiple projects, helping younger designers think more technically and functionally when developing their designs.

This is a hands-on support role, but also one where your technical knowledge can positively influence the quality, accuracy and efficiency of the wider team’s output.

What We’re Looking For

The ideal candidate is someone who is methodical, accurate and consistent, with strong technical ability and a collaborative working style. You should enjoy problem-solving, be comfortable working under pressure, and have the maturity to take responsibility for your work while supporting others in a fast-paced design environment.

You should bring a balance of technical skill, design understanding, communication ability and professional judgement.
