The Site QA/QC Coordinator (E&I) reports to the Quality Manager and has the overall responsibility of ensuring that equipment/work is inspected in accordance with project requirements and, together with the Field Engineering Manager, coordinate matters pertaining to quality control, inspection and testing materials & parts delivered from outside suppliers, site installation Inspections and site commissioning assistance in accordance to Hatch’s policy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assure that vendors’/contractors’ quality plans and procedures are available and up to date.
  • Evaluate and approve contractors’ Inspection &Test Plans
  • Participate in kick-off meetings to ensure quality requirements are clearly understood by vendors/contractors
  • Review vendors/contractors’ inspection and test certifications, records and data files for conformance
  • Participate in site materials receiving inspections. Assure that management, delivery, receipt, inspection, storage and issue of material and equipment is executed in accordance with the project requirements
  • Attend any Inspection points identified on the ITP and sign off on any Hold/Witness points where tasks are carried out satisfactorily
  • Inspections of Ground Grids
  • Inspections of High Voltage Switchyards
  • Inspection of High Voltage Transformers Single Phase and 3-Phase,
  • Inspection of High Voltage Converter Stations
  • Inspections of Transmission Lines
  • Quality Assurance activities including review and enforcement of contractor quality plan as well as audits.
  • Quality Inspections of all types of Vendor Equipment on site or at vendor sites.
  • Inspection and Installation of PLC’s, VFD, Transformers, Panels, Cables and Cable Trays, Lighting and Small Power.
  • Installation of Battery protection and control systems
  • Compile inspection reports immediately after an inspection and initiate Nonconformance Reports (NCRs)
  • Ensure that non-conforming products are clearly identified and quarantined.
  • Perform 3rd party QC inspections on behalf of clients, applicable to EPCM scopes.
  • Check that corrective actions have been performed
  • Ensure that nonconformance and concession requests, if applicable are resolved and cleared prior to release of equipment/work
  • Ensure that all inspection, measuring and testing equipment used by the vendor/contractor is calibrated and traceable to a national standard
  • Review and approve quality control data packs from vendors/contractors and issue inspection release
  • Prepare and maintain the vendor/contractor site audit schedule
  • Conduct vendor/contractor audits as per the approved schedule
  • Carry out inspections, pre-commissioning and performance testing as required by the ITPs or documented method statements/procedures
  • Carry out pre-commissioning verifications and interface during punch listing. Assure that all punch list items have been signed off
  • Provide support to the discipline supervisors in coordination of technical queries
  • Liaise with the Project Quality Assurance Manager and Field Engineering Manager for site inspection activities
  • Work closely with vendors/contractors and site personnel to ensure project compliance with the approved documents
  • Attend weekly progress meetings with the project site personnel
  • Attend daily/weekly progress meetings with contractors
  • Attend weekly quality meetings with site contractors

Qualifications And Experience

  • Must be willing to spend time on site, work a rotational-based employment model and travel frequently
  • Completed secondary school with Technical Diploma (N6) or NQF Equivalent preferable BTech Electrical or Instrumentation. Exposure to Engineering, in related disciplines
  • 8 to 10 years’ appropriate quality control/assurance experience in a construction project environment, including mining projects in a similar EPCM.
  • Appropriate qualification related to the type of inspections to be conducted
  • Experience with control systems, transformers, power distribution systems, fire, gas and HVAC systems
  • Experience with high voltage equipment, switch gear, UPS and emergency back-up power systems
  • Ability to work with vendors/contractors and develop good working relationships
  • Ability to work under pressure and multi-task
  • Must be familiar with ISO 9001
  • Excellent verbal and communication skills

  • Quality assurance experience with respect to project compliance and adherence to procedures and policies
  • EX (Explosion Proof) Hazardous Location Training
  • EPCM exposure.
