The Junior Demand Planner is responsible for supporting the forecasting and replenishment process within a retail environment to ensure the right products are available at the right stores and at the right time. The role involves analyzing sales trends, seasonal demand, promotions, inventory levels, and customer buying patterns to improve forecast accuracy, minimize stock shortages, and optimize inventory investment.

Role and Responsibilities

Demand Forecasting & Planning

  • Assist in developing and maintaining accurate sales and demand forecasts for retail stores and distribution centers.
  • Analyze historical sales data, seasonal trends, promotional activities, and market influences to forecast product demand.
  • Monitor forecast accuracy and recommend adjustments where required.
  • Support the planning of new product introductions and promotional campaigns.

Inventory Management

  • Monitor stock levels across stores and distribution centers.
  • Assist in ensuring optimal stock availability while minimizing excess inventory.
  • Identify potential stock shortages, overstocks, and slow-moving inventory.
  • Work with replenishment teams to ensure timely stock allocation and distribution.

Sales & Trend Analysis

  • Review daily, weekly, and monthly sales performance.
  • Analyze customer purchasing behavior and product performance trends.
  • Provide recommendations to improve stock availability and inventory turnover.
  • Monitor the impact of promotions and seasonal events on product demand.
  • Promotional Uplift Forecasting
  • Highlight Over-Forecasted Deals (Excess Stock Risk) and Under-Forecasted Deals (Lost Sales Risk)

Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Work closely with Buyers, Merchandise Planners, Store Operations, Distribution Centers, Procurement, and Suppliers.
  • Support communication between departments regarding forecast changes and inventory risks.
  • Participate in demand review meetings and planning sessions.
  • Assist in gathering information relating to promotions, new store openings, and product launches.

Reporting & Administration

  • Prepare demand planning reports and dashboards.
  • Maintain accurate product, supplier, and forecast data within planning systems.
  • Generate reports on forecast accuracy, stock availability, and inventory performance.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives within the planning process.
Qualification and minimum requirements
  • Matric certificate
  • Diploma or Degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Retail Business Management, Statistics, Economics, Business Management, Commerce, or a related field.
  • 1–3 years of experience in retail planning, demand planning, merchandise planning, inventory control, replenishment, or supply chain.
  • Experience within a retail, FMCG, wholesale, or distribution environment is advantageous.
  • Experience with Netstock stock planning programme an advantage.
  • Intermediate to Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Experience with retail ERP systems
