Minimum Requirements

  • B Eng or BSc in Engineering (Essential/Minimum)
  • Government Certificate of Competence: Engineering (Essential/Minimum)
  • Engineering Council of South Africa (PrEng) registration (Essential/Minimum)
  • Management Development Programme (Essential/Minimum)
  • Certificate in Project Management (Recommended/Desirable)
  • Postgraduate Diploma in Engineering or BSc (Hons) Mining Engineering (Recommended/Desirable)
  • 8-10 years of relevant experience in project management, evaluation, and improvement, including exposure to mobile equipment engineering and maintenance (Essential/Minimum)
  • Operational exposure to maintenance engineering
  • Experience in designing, selecting, and assessing mining equipment
  • Proficiency in managing technical risk and compliance with heavy mobile equipment strategy
  • Psychometric Assessment (Essential/Minimum) (To be conducted by Exxaro)
  • Certificate of Fitness (Essential/Minimum) (To be conducted by Exxaro)

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with Mine Health and Safety Act and Occupational Health and Safety Act, and adherence to company-specific Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE) policies.
  • Lead the development and enforcement of mobile equipment engineering policies and practices across all operations and projects.
  • Manage technical compliance and financial evaluation including equipment modeling, and oversee audits as required.
  • Develop and drive functional excellence initiatives, promoting knowledge sharing, and best practices across business units.
  • Assist in financial management, including preparing and managing the budget, and ensuring strategic alignment with company objectives.
  • Lead continuous improvement and change initiatives, advocating for functional improvements and fostering a culture of collaboration.
  • Provide operational and specialist support for mining equipment design, selection, and lifecycle management.
  • Facilitate talent development through mentoring, coaching, and succession planning, promoting a culture of continuous learning and empowerment.
  • Participate in industry-wide groups and initiatives, representing the group at the Mine Health and Safety Council.
  • Manage and mitigate risks associated with mobile equipment, ensuring strong governance and assurance frameworks.
