POSITION INFO

Role Overview

The Regional General Manager (GM) will lead the operations and report directly to the CEO and Board. This branch is a critical multi-functional hub, responsible for sales, distribution, and manufacturing across Gauteng, North West, Mpumalanga, and key African export markets. It also manufactures stock for branches in Cape Town, Bloemfontein, Cato Ridge (Durban) and our Limpopo agent.

The GM is accountable for delivering strong commercial performance, world-class service levels, and consistent product quality while fostering a high-performance culture and operational excellence. The role oversees all core functions of the branch, including Logistics, Procurement, Production, Health & Safety, Finance (branch level), Sales Support, and Administration.

Role Background

The Johannesburg operation is a high-performance environment characterised by a strong focus on quality, continuous improvement, and customer responsiveness. The business differentiates itself through product capability, convenience, reliability, and brand strength.

Key Performance Indicators

  • Monthly sales budgets
  • Stock exception to budget
  • Plus 90% of orders supplied in 4 working days
  • Stocktake variance & damages to budget
  • Key expense to budget – Payroll cost, overtime, fleet / fuel, equipment repairs & maintenance

The company conducts B2B relationships with resellers i.e. Builders Warehouse, BuildIt, Game Makro Mica, Hardware Stores etc with a broad range of products required by DIY’s, tiling, building, bathroom, paint contractors, amongst others, including industrial sales.

Key Responsibilities

  • 1. Provide your Leadership & People Management
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of ±80 staff across multiple functions.
  • Build a culture of accountability, teamwork, operational discipline, and alignment to the company’s mission and values.
  • Ensure the organisational structure remains fit for purpose and recommend improvements where required.
  • Uphold the company''s responsibilities toward customers, suppliers, and employees.
  • Branch Strategy & Performance
  • Develop and execute branch strategies that protect company assets, drive growth, and manage financial and operational risks.
  • Set and monitor annual performance targets for sales, production, distribution efficiency, and cost control.
  • Deliver profitable performance and consistently meet or exceed budgeted KPIs.
  • Sales & Customer Service Oversight
  • Support the regional sales team in driving growth in Gauteng, North West, Mpumalanga, and African export markets.
  • Maintain exceptional customer satisfaction through reliable delivery, product availability, and service quality.
  • Work with Sales Management to resolve key customer challenges, strengthen relationships, and identify new opportunities.
  • Conduct and update competitive analyses and execute strategic responses.
  • Logistics & Distribution Management
  • Oversee daily distribution operations, fleet utilisation, routing efficiency, and on-time delivery performance.
  • Ensure tight co-ordination between warehouse, receiving, and dispatch teams.
  • Maintain accurate stock levels with strong warehouse controls and inventory discipline.
  • Production & Manufacturing Oversight
  • Lead the branch’s manufacturing operations, supplying the region as well as Cape Town, Bloemfontein, Cato Ridge and Limpopo.
  • Ensure production schedules are met consistently and efficiently, with optimal use of resources.
  • Uphold high standards of product quality, cost efficiency, compliance, and safety.
  • Procurement & Supply Chain
  • Ensure raw material procurement is timely, cost-effective, and aligned with production and sales requirements.
  • Strengthen supplier relationships and manage supply chain risks and continuity.
  • Compliance, Health & Safety, and Risk Management
  • Ensure compliance with labour legislation, industry regulations, and Powafix policies.
  • Maintain a safe working environment across warehouse, production, and logistics areas.
  • Lead & co-ordinate risk assessment audits and implement mitigation measures to safeguard people and assets.
  • Financial & Administrative Management
  • Oversee the branch budget, cost controls, expense approvals, and financial reporting accuracy.
  • Support month-end close processes and contribute to financial planning cycles.
  • Implement continuous cost-saving and efficiency initiatives without compromising quality.]
  • Continuous Improvement & Operational Excellence
  • Identify bottlenecks and operational inefficiencies across all departments.
  • Lead initiatives that improve processes, systems, productivity, quality, and safety.
  • Drive growth in Gauteng while ensuring operations remain lean, efficient, and scalable.
  • Review operational performance and strategic direction regularly with the CEO.
  • General Leadership & Strategic Execution
  • Maintain a deep understanding of all aspects of the business — from customer engagement and contract oversight to procurement, manufacturing, pricing, and staffing.
  • Ensure effective execution of Board and CEO decisions.
  • Protect long-term business value by evaluating risks and returns across strategic alternatives.
