SUMMARY

POSITION INFO

Job Purpose

The Gravure Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, monitoring, and maintaining gravure printing machines to produce high-quality printed products in accordance with customer specifications, production schedules, and company quality standards.

Key ResponsibilitiesMachine Operation

• Set up and operate gravure printing presses according to job specifications.
• Load and prepare printing cylinders, inks, and substrates.
• Adjust machine settings to achieve optimal print quality and production efficiency.
• Monitor machine performance throughout production runs.

Quality Control

• Conduct regular quality inspections to ensure print accuracy, colour consistency, and registration.
• Identify printing defects and make necessary adjustments to maintain quality standards.
• Ensure finished products meet customer and company requirements.

Production Efficiency

• Follow production schedules and meet daily output targets.
• Minimize waste and downtime by identifying and resolving operational issues promptly.
• Accurately complete production reports and job documentation.

Maintenance and Troubleshooting

• Perform routine cleaning and preventative maintenance on gravure printing equipment.
• Troubleshoot machine faults and escalate major issues to maintenance personnel when required.
• Ensure equipment is maintained in a safe and operational condition.

Health, Safety and Housekeeping

• Adhere to all health and safety regulations and company policies.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area.
• Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.

Minimum Requirements

• Grade 12 (Matric).
• Proven experience as a Gravure Operator within a printing or packaging environment.
• Sound knowledge of gravure printing processes and quality standards.
• Ability to read and interpret production specifications and job cards.
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work shifts and overtime when required.

Preferred Requirements

• Experience within the flexible packaging industry.
• Technical or printing-related qualification.
• Basic mechanical and maintenance knowledge.
