The Supervisor for Final Assembly and PBA oversees daily operations, ensuring the efficient execution of production plans, adherence to quality standards, and achievement of department goals. This role includes stock control, effective people management, staff allocation and requisition, and driving operational excellence while ensuring alignment with customer requirements and company objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Production Planning and Coordination
- Develop, implement, and monitor weekly production schedules to meet customer deadlines and project requirements.
- Coordinate staffing and equipment resources across SMT, PBA, Harnessing, and LAB departments.
- Ensure optimal allocation of staff, including outsourced labor, for efficient project-based execution.
- Liaise with Production Planners and department supervisors to adapt plans for urgent customer needs or drop-in orders.
- Staff Requisition Approval
- Review and sign off on staffing requisitions to ensure alignment with operational requirements.
- Confirm that staffing requests are cost-effective and in line with budgetary constraints.
- Verify that proper line balancing has been conducted to optimize workforce allocation before approving requisitions.
- People Management
- Supervise and mentor department supervisors, cell representatives, and LAB leads, monitoring their KPIs and performance.
- Provide leadership in managing staff discipline, addressing performance issues, and enforcing adherence to company policies.
- Conduct regular performance reviews for supervisors and ensure effective management of their teams.
- Oversee resource planning to ensure adequate staffing and skill alignment for each project.
- Training and Upskilling
- Identify skill gaps across all departments and oversee the implementation of training programs.
- Develop upskilling initiatives for LAB and production staff, focusing on technical knowledge, quality assurance, and process improvement.
- Promote cross-training to enhance workforce flexibility and reduce dependency on key personnel.
- Ensure training programs align with customer and regulatory requirements for contract manufacturing.
- Quality Assurance and Compliance
- Ensure compliance with IPC standards, ISO9001, and customer-specific quality requirements.
- Collaborate with the Quality Manager to oversee quality control processes, manage NCRs, and implement corrective actions.
- Conduct and supervise internal and external audits, ensuring proper documentation and adherence to quality protocols.
- Lead first-off build approvals and ensure quality standards are upheld throughout production.
- Efficiency and Process Improvement
- Monitor efficiency metrics across SMT, PBA, Harnessing, and LAB departments, identifying areas for improvement.
- Drive process optimization initiatives to reduce waste, minimize downtime, and improve resource utilization.
- Analyze production data and implement strategies to enhance overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).
- Ensure that standard operating procedures (SOPs) and production routines are followed consistently.
- Responsible for enforcing all departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and ensuring their ongoing maintenance. This includes conducting an annual review of the SOPs, identifying and implementing updates as needed, and organizing staff training sessions to ensure all team members are familiar with and adhere to the latest procedures.
- Inventory and Resource Management
- Collaborate with the Stores Manager to maintain inventory accuracy and ensure the availability of materials and consumables.
- Monitor material variances and address discrepancies affecting production efficiency.
- Ensure all inventory management procedures align with company policies and contractual obligations.
- Housekeeping and Safety Compliance
- Enforce housekeeping standards across all production floors and the LAB to ensure cleanliness, organization, and safety.
- Conduct routine safety inspections, audits, and drills to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
- Ensure compliance with Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) policies and regulations.
- Leadership and Communication
- Lead daily morning meetings with department heads to align on production goals, challenges, and updates.
- Facilitate cross-department collaboration to ensure smooth handovers between SMT, PBA, Harnessing, and LAB operations.
- Communicate company policies, decisions, and production updates effectively to all teams.
- Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and innovation across all levels.
- Reporting and Metrics
- Monitor, review, and report on production performance, including OTIF delivery rates, quality metrics, and efficiency improvements.
- Prepare detailed monthly performance reports for senior management, including recommendations for improvement.
- Ensure supervisors regularly update and submit efficiency and variance reports.
- Staff Discipline and Engagement
- Oversee factory discipline by enforcing workplace policies and addressing breaches promptly.
- Work with HR and supervisors to handle escalated disciplinary actions and grievances.
- Promote employee engagement through recognition programs and team-building activities.
Skills and Competencies
- Leadership and people management skills with the ability to motivate and guide a diverse workforce.
- Proficiency in staff allocation and workforce planning based on job demands.
- Strong technical knowledge of PBA processes, equipment maintenance, and final assembly workflows.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills for process optimization and staff management.
- Effective communication and organizational abilities.
Qualifications and Experience
- Diploma or degree in Electronics, Manufacturing, or related fields.
- Minimum of 3–5 years of supervisory experience in electronics manufacturing, specifically in PBA or final assembly.
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems for production planning and inventory management.
- In-depth knowledge of soldering techniques, equipment maintenance, and quality standards.
