The Role

Subtech South Africa is seeking a CAD Operator to join our dynamic team, delivering precision-driven engineering support across a range of projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for producing high-quality technical drawings, detailed CAD models, and NDT reports, ensuring all outputs meet industry standards and client specifications.

This role is ideal for a detail-oriented professional with a passion for accuracy, strong technical expertise, and the ability to translate complex concepts into clear, reliable documentation.

What you'll be doing

  • Review project files and liaise with technicians, surveyors, and clients to fully understand scope and requirements.
  • Produce accurate 2D AutoCAD drawings using company and Class templates, ensuring clarity, correct labelling, and inclusion of key project details.
  • Compile and verify inspection data, including thickness measurement spreadsheets and supporting documentation, ensuring certificate validity.
  • Convert outputs to client-ready reports and submit for QA review, incorporating feedback promptly and issuing final reports on time.
  • Oversee and support Assistant CAD Operators, ensuring quality standards, effective use of systems (IMS/SharePoint), and ongoing performance development.

What we're looking for

  • Proficient in AutoCAD and ZW CAD, with strong MS Office skills.
  • Skilled in producing high-quality technical drawings and interpreting vessel drawings.
  • Knowledge of maritime construction equipment and technician certification requirements.
  • Experienced in report writing, compilation, and analysis, with understanding of audit files.
  • Demonstrates CAD project leadership and commitment to high standards.
  • Basic experience in UTM Class Reporting.
