Job Advert Summary

We are looking for an experienced Electrician or Millwright to join our Agri team. The primary objective of this role is to ensure all support activities are conducted efficiently and effectively, enabling smooth operations across the facility.

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12
  • Relevant qualification (Red-seal certificate)
  • Drivers' license & own transport.
  • High voltage certificate would be an advantage.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years’ experience in an Electrician role
  • Experience in a Poultry environment would be beneficial

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and general maintenance activities across the farm to ensure the continuous operation of production facilities and equipment.
  • Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electrical systems, including control panels, motors, wiring, lighting systems, distribution boards, generators, transformers, and circuit breakers.
  • Conduct fault-finding and diagnostics on electrical and mechanical equipment using appropriate testing instruments and tools.
  • Perform preventative and routine maintenance inspections on farm equipment, poultry houses, water systems, feeding systems, ventilation systems, generators, and other critical infrastructure.
  • Maintain and repair environmental control systems, including heating, cooling, ventilation, and air-conditioning equipment to ensure optimal bird welfare and production performance.
  • Attend to breakdowns and emergency repairs promptly to minimize operational downtime and production losses.
  • Inspect, repair, and replace faulty electrical and mechanical components, equipment, fixtures, and infrastructure as required.
  • Ensure that all maintenance activities are completed in accordance with company standards, manufacturer specifications, and legislative requirements.
  • Maintain farm buildings, grounds, roads, fences, water systems, and other infrastructure to a high standard.
  • Conduct routine vehicle and equipment inspections and coordinate repairs and servicing where necessary.
  • Plan, schedule, and coordinate maintenance activities to ensure work is completed efficiently and within required timeframes.
  • Supervise, organize, and allocate work to maintenance team members, ensuring tasks are completed safely, effectively, and to the required quality standards.
  • Monitor maintenance costs and ensure the responsible use of tools, equipment, materials, and spare parts.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, service schedules, job cards, and inventory of critical spare parts.
  • Ensure strict compliance with all biosecurity protocols and procedures applicable to the poultry operation.
  • Ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety requirements, including safe work practices, risk assessments, lockout procedures, and the use of personal protective equipment.
  • Assist with the implementation and maintenance of continuous improvement initiatives aimed at improving efficiency, reliability, and productivity.
  • Manage maintenance department administration, including timesheets, leave planning, attendance management, performance management, and the initiation of disciplinary processes where required.
