About The Role

We are seeking an experienced and strategic PMO Manager to lead and optimise our Project Management Office (PMO) function. This role is responsible for driving PMO governance, portfolio oversight, planning excellence, performance reporting, and people's capability to ensure the successful execution of programmes and projects aligned to organisational objectives.

The successful candidate will provide strategic direction and leadership across a complex project environment, ensuring that robust governance frameworks, effective methodologies, and best-practice project management principles are embedded throughout the organisation. This role requires a commercially astute leader who can influence stakeholders, optimise delivery processes, and build a high-performing PMO capable of delivering sustainable business value.

Qualifications and experience

  • Minimum formal Project Management training; Preferably a formal Technical qualification.
  • PMP/Prince2 certification preferred; Quality Management training would be advantageous.
  • 10-15 years of line management, operational management, customer and stakeholder management and team leading experience and skills.
  • Experience in business process design, implementation and roll-out.

Key technical skills

  • Good understanding and application of strategy and implementation.
  • Experience of governance, policies and training as applicable to team performance and development.
  • A good and effective knowledge of project lifecycle and planning and project techniques and tools.
  • Experience and detailed understanding of Risk Management process.
  • Experience and detailed knowledge of Business Management Processes and Quality Management System.
  • Experience conducting internal project and process audits.
  • Understanding of how the delivery of complex systems works within project environment.
  • Business analysis and modeling of requirements into contractible work streams.
  • Scope and change management within complex project environments.
  • Stakeholder management with dynamic presentation techniques to get the point across and to influence or negotiate.
  • Leading of teams within a diverse environment consisting of highly skilled engineers, operators, technicians and general staff.
  • Knowledge of PRINCE II, PMBOK and Agile methods of project/programme management.
  • Working knowledge of PRINCE2, PMBOK, and Agile project and programme management methodologies.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.

Key responsibilities

PMO Strategy & Governance

  • Develop and implement PMO strategies, governance frameworks, risk management practices, and operational controls to support business objectives, optimise project execution, and ensure organisational compliance and performance.

Programme & Portfolio Management

  • Lead and govern the programme and project portfolio environment by establishing PMO structures, monitoring project performance, supporting bid and order acceptance processes, and ensuring informed decision-making and successful project delivery.

Planning, Resource & Process Optimisation

  • Establish and maintain project planning, resource management, methodologies, tools, and review processes to enhance project execution capability, improve resource utilisation, and drive consistent delivery outcomes.

Performance Reporting & Stakeholder Alignment

  • Consolidate, analyse, and communicate portfolio performance, risks, milestones, and business impacts to stakeholders and executives to support strategic alignment, informed decision-making, and operational transparency.

Leadership & People Development

  • Lead, develop, and manage PMO personnel through performance management, capability development, succession planning, workforce optimisation, and employee engagement to build a high-performing and sustainable PMO function.
