Corporate Communications Writer

PRIMARY PURPOSE

The primary focus of this role is crisis and risk communications across the Wilderness group and its owned brands. The successful candidate will have proven experience writing for crisis and risk situations, with a clear understanding of the research, factchecking, and nuance required to draft.

We're looking for a strong, versatile writer who can adapt their tone and focus to suit different audiences and business needs. The ideal candidate writes with intelligence and clarity, able to distil complex information without losing nuance, and bring to life the purpose-driven work that sits at the heart of Wilderness.

Detailed Responsibilities

Crisis and risk communication

  • Manage the Comms Support email inbox and respond to queries timeously
  • Connect to internal stakeholders (Product/ Risk/ MDs) for technical support and guidance
  • Collate technical risk drafts with internal stakeholders needs i.e. commercial stance and draft a cohesive communications piece
  • Disseminate the communication to the appropriate channels within the business
  • Support on PR and media responses during a crises (under direction of Risk)
  • Build rapport with internal stakeholders (MDs/ Ops) as well as PR agencies for crisis comms processes
  • Monitor social listening tools for information pertaining to crisis and risk situations

Copy needs for the following are required

  • Holding statements
  • Press statements and media releases
  • FAQs for internal, media and public-facing use
  • Internal communications
  • Guest and trade communications
  • Briefing documents for spokespeople

Risk communication needs will take precedent of any other communication projects as and when needed.

Impact copywriting

Create copy for impact related work that includes:

  • Website content
  • Blog posts
  • Press releases
  • Impact-related social media captions
  • Newsletter copy
  • Printed collateral such as books, magazines, brochures, room drops and guest information
  • Impact reports
  • Campaign copy
  • Script writing

Internal copywriting

Internal copy needs include writing for

  • Blog posts
  • Newsletters
  • Campaigns
  • Stakeholder messaging
  • Staff biographies
  • Printed collateral
  • Templates
  • Impact & HR Award Submissions
  • LinkedIn Posts

CANDIDATE PROFILE

Qualification

  • Degree in Corporate Communication/ Communication Science/ Public Relations (PR)/ Journalism/ Media Studies/ Marketing or Marketing Communications/ English, Linguistics, or Creative Writing/ Business Communication.

Experience

  • 5 years of experience years' experience in writing copy across a range of channels.
  • Experience in crises communications is an added advantage.
  • Be comfortable to create content for multiple marketing channels, differing audiences and different focus areas.
  • Adapt tone and structure for different channels and audiences
  • Write effectively for people at all levels of the organisation
  • Work from a brief while bringing your own ideas and creative input
  • Research independently and engage with the right people across the business to gather accurate, informed messaging

  • Stays informed on current news and industry developments to support crisis response when needed
