Safety Officer

We are seeking a highly experienced and proactive Safety Officer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for promoting and maintaining a safe working environment, ensuring compliance with mining legislation, client requirements, and company safety standards.
This role is best suited for an individual with extensive experience working on mining sites and a strong understanding of mining health and safety regulations, risk management, and compliance requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with all applicable mining health and safety legislation, site rules, and client requirements.
- Conduct regular workplace inspections, risk assessments, and safety audits.
- Identify hazards and implement corrective and preventative measures.
- Facilitate incident investigations and compile detailed reports.
- Develop and deliver safety inductions, toolbox talks, and safety training.
- Monitor contractor and employee compliance with safety procedures.
- Maintain safety records, statistics, and legal compliance documentation.
- Participate in safety committee meetings and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Liaise with mine management, clients, and regulatory authorities on safety matters.
- Promote a strong safety culture across all operational activities.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 (Matric).
- National Diploma or Certificate in Safety Management, Occupational Health and Safety, or related qualification.
- Valid Safety Officer qualification.
- Minimum 2-5 years' experience as a Safety Officer within the mining industry.
- Sound knowledge of the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA) and mining industry standards.
- Experience conducting risk assessments, incident investigations, and safety audits.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and safety reporting systems.
- Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
- Valid driver's license.
- Medically fit and willing to travel to various mining operations.
Advantageous
- COMSOC 1 & 2.
- SAMTRAC Certification.
- Incident Investigation qualification.
- First Aid and Fire Fighting certification.
- Experience working on underground and/or surface mining operations.
We are looking for a hands-on safety professional who can confidently engage with mine employees, supervisors, contractors, and clients to ensure the highest standards of safety compliance and operational excellence. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of maintaining legal compliance and driving a strong safety culture within mining environments.
