Safety Officer

We are seeking a highly experienced and proactive Safety Officer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for promoting and maintaining a safe working environment, ensuring compliance with mining legislation, client requirements, and company safety standards.

This role is best suited for an individual with extensive experience working on mining sites and a strong understanding of mining health and safety regulations, risk management, and compliance requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable mining health and safety legislation, site rules, and client requirements.
  • Conduct regular workplace inspections, risk assessments, and safety audits.
  • Identify hazards and implement corrective and preventative measures.
  • Facilitate incident investigations and compile detailed reports.
  • Develop and deliver safety inductions, toolbox talks, and safety training.
  • Monitor contractor and employee compliance with safety procedures.
  • Maintain safety records, statistics, and legal compliance documentation.
  • Participate in safety committee meetings and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Liaise with mine management, clients, and regulatory authorities on safety matters.
  • Promote a strong safety culture across all operational activities.

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 (Matric).
  • National Diploma or Certificate in Safety Management, Occupational Health and Safety, or related qualification.
  • Valid Safety Officer qualification.
  • Minimum 2-5 years' experience as a Safety Officer within the mining industry.
  • Sound knowledge of the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA) and mining industry standards.
  • Experience conducting risk assessments, incident investigations, and safety audits.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and safety reporting systems.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Medically fit and willing to travel to various mining operations.

  • COMSOC 1 & 2.
  • SAMTRAC Certification.
  • Incident Investigation qualification.
  • First Aid and Fire Fighting certification.
  • Experience working on underground and/or surface mining operations.

We are looking for a hands-on safety professional who can confidently engage with mine employees, supervisors, contractors, and clients to ensure the highest standards of safety compliance and operational excellence. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of maintaining legal compliance and driving a strong safety culture within mining environments.
