Our client, a specialist player in the structured finance and insurance solutions space, is looking to appoint an Underwriter within their Mining team. This role reports directly to the Head of Mining and forms a key part of the business’s credit and risk function.

POSITION INFO

Key Responsibilities Underwrite and manage credit risk across a diverse portfolio of mining clients. Structure and assess complex financial transactions, particularly mine rehabilitation guarantees. Conduct detailed financial statement and trend analysis to inform credit decisions. Evaluate project finance structures and assess associated risks and returns. Build and manage strong client relationships across private and listed mining entities. Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure sound risk management and deal execution. Monitor portfolio performance and provide ongoing risk insights and recommendations. Job Experience and Skills Required Bachelor's degree in Finance, Commerce, Mining Engineering, Law, or a related field. Professional qualification such as CA(SA), CFA, or MBA is highly advantageous. Minimum of 5 years' experience in credit, financial services, insurance, or mining. Strong experience in financial analysis, project finance, and credit risk assessment. Solid understanding of guarantees and structured finance solutions is preferred. FAIS compliance and RE5 (advantageous but not essential). Valid driver's license and willingness to travel across Africa and internationally. Competency Requirements Strong commercial acumen and deal-making capability. Analytical thinker with attention to detail. Dynamic personality suited to a high-performance, fast-paced culture. Excellent relationship management and stakeholder engagement skills.
