Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Site Agent to join our growing renewable energy construction team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day management, coordination, and supervision of site construction activities associated with utility-scale Solar PV, Wind, Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), substation, and grid connection infrastructure projects.

In this site-based role, typically working full time on site with monthly R&R, the Site Agent works under the direction of the Construction Manager to lead multidisciplinary site teams and subcontractors and ensure construction activities are delivered safely, on schedule, to the required quality standards, and in accordance with project objectives and contractual requirements.

This role requires a practical, hands-on construction professional with strong leadership, technical, commercial, and organisational skills who can successfully coordinate electrical, mechanical, and civil construction activities within an EPC project environment.

Key Responsibilities

Site Operations Management

  • Manage daily site operations and coordinate all active construction work fronts.
  • Plan, organise, and supervise construction activities to ensure safe and efficient project execution.
  • Allocate labour, plant, equipment, and materials to optimise productivity and programme performance.
  • Monitor labour productivity, equipment utilisation, and subcontractor performance.
  • Identify and resolve construction constraints affecting safety, quality, productivity, or schedule.
  • Ensure all construction activities are executed in accordance with approved construction methodologies, work instructions, and permit requirements.
  • Lead daily coordination meetings with supervisors, subcontractors, and site engineering personnel.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement across all site activities.

Construction Management

  • Supervise and coordinate electrical, mechanical, and civil construction activities across utility-scale renewable energy projects.
  • Manage the execution of Solar PV, Wind, BESS, substation, transmission, and balance of plant construction works.
  • Ensure compliance with approved engineering drawings, specifications, project standards, and contractual requirements.
  • Coordinate construction interfaces between contractors, suppliers, consultants, and client representatives.
  • Monitor progress against construction schedules and implement corrective actions where required.
  • Support construction planning and short-term work scheduling activities.

Electrical, Mechanical and Civil Works Oversight

  • Oversee the construction and installation of:
    • Solar PV generation facilities;
    • Wind farm balance of plant infrastructure;
    • Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS);
    • Inverters and power conversion systems;
    • MV and HV cable networks;
    • Transformers and substations;
    • Grid connection infrastructure;
    • Foundations and structural works;
    • Roads, drainage, fencing, earthworks, and associated balance of plant infrastructure.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary construction teams to ensure efficient project delivery and interface management.
  • Ensure construction works are completed in accordance with approved quality standards and project specifications.

Health, Safety, Environment and Quality

  • Promote and maintain a zero-harm safety culture on site.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable health, safety, environmental, and quality requirements.
  • Lead toolbox talks, safety briefings, and site coordination meetings.
  • Participate in risk assessments, permit-to-work systems, incident investigations, and corrective action implementation.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and audits to verify compliance with project requirements.
  • Ensure subcontractors comply with project HSE and quality management systems.
  • Drive quality management processes, including inspections, testing, punch list management, and handover preparation.

Quality Assurance and Commissioning Support

  • Support implementation of Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) and project quality procedures.
  • Monitor inspection, testing, and quality documentation activities.
  • Coordinate construction completion and handover processes.
  • Support pre-commissioning, commissioning, energisation, and performance testing activities.
  • Ensure timely closure of punch list items and non-conformance reports.
  • Assist in the preparation of handover dossiers, as-built records, and completion documentation.

Commercial and Contract Management

  • Monitor installed quantities against budgeted quantities and programme targets.
  • Support progress measurement and construction reporting activities.
  • Assist in the preparation and evaluation of subcontractor payment certificates.
  • Identify potential variations, claims, delays, and productivity impacts.
  • Assist the Construction Manager in protecting the project’s commercial position.
  • Support construction cost control and forecasting activities.
  • Monitor subcontractor compliance with contractual obligations and performance requirements.

Site Reporting and Project Controls

  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly progress reports for submission to the Construction Manager.
  • Monitor key performance indicators relating to safety, quality, programme, productivity, and cost.
  • Assist with forecasting labour, plant, material, and resource requirements.
  • Maintain accurate site records and construction documentation.
  • Provide regular updates on risks, opportunities, and project performance.

Leadership and Team Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop Site Engineers, Supervisors, Foremen, and construction personnel.
  • Support the development of graduate engineers and junior construction staff.
  • Foster a collaborative and high-performance site culture.
  • Promote professional development and succession planning within the project team.
Required Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree or National Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 7–12 years of construction experience within infrastructure, industrial, power, transmission, renewable energy, mining, or EPC project environments.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in a Site Agent, Senior Site Engineer, Construction Superintendent, Section Manager, or similar site leadership role.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering utility-scale Solar PV, Wind, BESS, substation, transmission, industrial, mining, or major infrastructure projects.
  • Strong understanding of construction methodologies across civil, mechanical, and electrical disciplines.
  • Experience managing subcontractors, supervisors, site personnel, and construction resources.
  • Experience within EPC, Design-Build, or contractor-led project delivery environments.
  • Strong understanding of quality management systems, testing, commissioning, and project handover processes.
  • Valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel extensively and reside on project sites.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Electrical Engineering qualification will be advantageous.
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer, Professional Engineering Technologist, Professional Engineering Technician, Candidate Engineer, Candidate Engineering Technologist, or Candidate Engineering Technician with ECSA will be advantageous.
  • Registration with SACPCMP as a Professional Construction Manager, Professional Construction Project Manager, or Candidate equivalent will be advantageous.
  • Project Management qualification or training.
  • Construction Health and Safety training.
  • Contract management and commercial administration training.
  • Experience working for a major EPC contractor, renewable energy contractor, civil contractor, electrical contractor, or balance of plant contractor.
  • Additional qualifications or training in renewable energy, power systems, substations, or construction management.
