In support of IMSAf’s ongoing efforts to enhance organisational performance and provide employee development opportunities, the company is pleased to invite applications for a Senior Validation Engineer in the Product Engineering Department.

The incumbent of this role is responsible for defining the component validation requirements in conjunction with the responsible Project Engineer. Additionally, the incumbent will conduct test and validation activities on time in accordance with the Master timing plan as well as plan and execute Test & Development Requests (TDRs) in line with timing & manpower requirements.

Minimum Requirements

  • National Diploma in Mechanical & or Electrical Engineering,
  • Minimum 10 years practical experience in the Automotive Sector, with at least 5 years in the applicable field of Engineering,
  • Computer Skills (Microsoft Office, excellent SAP knowledge {Design Check}, Microsoft Project, E-mail),
  • Understanding of engineering theory and principles of design,
  • Good Technical Report Writing skills,
  • Code 8 drivers license (heavy duty license advantageous in the case of testing trucks).
  • Analytical approach to technical problem solving,
  • English oral and written communication skills,
  • High degree of planning, creative ability and discipline,
  • High level of subject matter knowledge.
  • Needs to be able to travel at short notice to support any critical testing,
  • Required to work extended hours as needed to support critical operational requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure that the vehicle is representative of the design intent (i.e. all proper test parts fitted) and schedule the buy-off meeting.
  • Modify/Adjust validation plan with program changes and highlight/communicate the impact to the Master timing plan.
  • Recognize and address significant content changes.
  • Drive the test vehicles weekly, including special checks.
  • Find issues through Inspections, total vehicle checks, Design Reviews Based on Test Results (DRBTR s’) & End of Test Teardown.
  • Lead, incident investigation and follow-up on issues that occur on durability vehicles.
  • Support inputs into CAPEX budget & OPEX budgets based on costs to support long and short term testing.
  • Ensure that Calibration schedules are defined and tracked accordingly for any specialized test equipment.
  • Liaise with independent test houses to schedule tests in other locations or institutes and track timing thereof.
  • Provide input into maintaining accurate business management processes for key operations in the validation area.
  • Review processes regularly to ascertain relevance or changes and support re-issue of updated procedures as required.
  • Support BMS level 2 audits and any SABS audits as needed.
  • Follow the process of bringing new chemicals to site by ensuring the Hazardous risks are understood and the necessary Material Safety Datasheets are available.
  • Support any SABS Environmental audits as needed.
  • Assist with the establishing of design check vehicle build plan & targets.
  • Manage all prototype build activities incl material consolidation.
  • Report any build issues and track speedy resolution to these.
  • Ensure all Engineers buy off on respective vehicles.
  • Ad-hoc support for new model launch prep, press test vehicles & media launches.
