My client, a global engineering company servicing the aluminium and heavy industrial sectors, is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join their team in Richards Bay.
The successful candidate will be responsible for providing technical engineering support, developing detailed CAD drawings and 3D models, performing mechanical design calculations, managing Bills of Materials (BOMs), and supporting production and project activities. This role offers the opportunity to work closely with both local and international engineering teams while contributing to innovative engineering solutions within a specialised industrial environment

Key Responsibilities Engineering Systems & BOM Management Manage and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) using SAP and internal systems. Create and update item codes in accordance with company standards. Extract and analyse technical data from SAP and related systems. Provide BOM support and clarification to internal departments. CAD Design & Drafting Produce detailed 2D and 3D engineering drawings using AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor. Develop drawings from site inspections, sketches, specifications, and general arrangements. Create innovative design solutions where required. Maintain drawing standards in line with ISO 9001 requirements. Mechanical Design & Calculations Perform mechanical load calculations and design assessments. Prepare documentation for mechanical certification. Apply knowledge of tolerances, materials, and engineering specifications. Review and approve technical drawings prior to manufacture. Stakeholder Engagement Engage with clients to understand technical requirements and provide engineering solutions. Conduct site visits and equipment assessments. Liaise with international engineering teams to ensure alignment of solutions and standards. Coordinate with suppliers and workshops to ensure fabrication meets engineering requirements. Health, Safety, Environment & Quality Ensure compliance with all HSEQ requirements and relevant legislation. Support continuous improvement initiatives and NCR resolution processes. Identify and resolve technical discrepancies relating to BOMs, drawings, materials, and equipment. Minimum Requirements Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSc or BEng). 3-5 years' experience in mechanical drafting and design. Experience within machine building, heavy equipment fabrication, repairs, or related industries is advantageous. Proficiency in AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor. Working knowledge of SAP and BOM management. Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, material specifications, and engineering standards.
