Job Specification: Manager - Regulatory Affairs Role Overview Designation: Manager: Regulatory Affairs Location: Midrand, Gauteng Position Type: Permanent Category: Legal and Compliance Job Level: Professionally qualified, experienced specialist / Mid-management Position Purpose Reporting directly to the Head of Public Policy and Regulatory Affairs, this role is responsible for managing all regulatory and compliance developments and affairs for the group. The incumbent ensures the organization's clear understanding of and strict adherence to relevant financial regulations, laws, and industry guidelines. This position plays a key strategic role in engaging senior management across the group to align internal processes with regulatory requirements and advising on regulatory changes that may impact business operations and strategy. Key Responsibilities Regulatory Tracking: Ensure the Public Policy & Regulatory Affairs team captures and monitors emerging regulatory trends and legislative changes. Impact Analysis: Promptly review and summarize regulatory developments, providing clear guidance on potential operational impacts to affected business divisions. Advocacy & Commenting: Collect, synthesize, and submit formal comments on proposed legislation to Regulators, Government bodies, or industry associations where appropriate. Implementation Frameworks: Ensure comprehensive implementation plans are created to comply with new legislation and regulations. Execution Oversight: Oversee the successful execution of implementation plans across divisions, ensuring internal controls, processes, and policies meet legal and regulatory standards. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with legal, compliance, risk, audit, and operations functions to develop and update internal policies in line with regulatory requirements. Risk Assessment: Work closely with the Risk and Compliance teams to proactively identify, track, and assess regulatory risks. Strategic Advisory: Provide high-level strategic advice to senior management regarding regulatory changes, risks, and strategic opportunities. Thought Leadership: Write articles and thought-leadership pieces on complex matters pertaining to regulatory affairs on an ad hoc basis. Ad Hoc Research: Conduct deep-dive research into specific regulatory, policy, and compliance matters as required. Industry Representation: Represent the organization on industry bodies, committees, and working forums. Team Leadership: Mentor, coach, and develop the regulatory affairs team, ensuring they remain well-informed and equipped to execute their functions. Key Competencies & Skills Regulatory Knowledge: In-depth understanding of South African financial and non-financial regulations impacting Financial Services Providers (FSPs). Analytical Skills: Advanced ability to interpret highly complex regulatory texts and accurately analyze their practical implications for the business. Communication & Presentation: Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to present complex regulatory changes and their impact clearly to senior management, and write articulate articles. Interpersonal & Influencing Skills: Strong relationship-building capability with the ability to influence and negotiate with internal stakeholders and external regulatory bodies. Attention to Detail: High level of precision, particularly regarding compliance frameworks and statutory reporting requirements. Solutions-Driven: Proactive problem solver capable of assessing complex risks and developing practical, strategic business solutions. Forward-Thinking: Ability to anticipate shifting regulatory landscapes, preparing the organization for future challenges before they impact operations. Minimum Requirements Experience: 7+ years of progressive experience within the Financial Services sector. Qualifications: B.Com LLB degree. Professional Designations: Being an Admitted Attorney and/or a Certified Financial Planner (CFP) is highly advantageous. Systems: Excellent proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
