The Department of Science, Technology and Innovation (DSI) is seeking a skilled and motivated Employee Relations Practitioner to join its Human Resource and Support Management (HRSM) Directorate in Pretoria. In this role you will provide hands-on support in implementing all employee and employer relations activities across the department, from managing grievances and disciplinary processes to facilitating disputes at the GPSSBC and maintaining accurate labour relations records.

1. Grievance management

  • Receive, register and log all grievances
  • Facilitate and resolve grievances within applicable timeframes
  • Support collective bargaining and dispute management processes
  • Conduct investigations and compile grievance reports

2. Dispute management

  • Facilitate disputes at the GPSSBC
  • Provide support during dispute proceedings and preparation

3. Misconduct management

  • Facilitate disciplinary processes within required timeframes
  • Represent the department and draft related reports
  • Compile statistical reports on misconduct and dispute trends

4. Administration support

  • Draft submissions, letters, memos and meeting packs
  • Maintain database of disciplinary, grievance and appeal cases
  • Capture labour relations cases on Persal
  • Conduct basic research on ER trends and provide guidance
  • Coordinate implementation of labour policies and resolutions

Qualification

  • NQF level 6 qualification in Labour Relations / Labour Law / Human Resources Management / Human Resources Development / Industrial Psychology / Industrial Relations or other equivalent relevant qualification.

TRAINING

  • Sufficient training and exposure of Labour Relations

Experience

  • At least 2 years within labour relations environment.

Knowledge

  • Knowledge and understanding of Public Service Act and Regulation. b)
  • Knowledge and understanding of departmental policies and procedures. c)
  • Understanding and knowledge of Labour Laws (LRA, BCEA, EEA and other labour related legislations) and Ethics issues. d)
  • Knowledge of PFMA, Treasury Regulation. e)
  • Understanding of Confidential and Security Clearance prescripts.
