Our team has a combined 30 years’ experience in the public and private sector supply industry in South Africa. As part of our ongoing growth strategy, we are looking to appoint a General Manager to fulfil a key leadership position in the business that supports our operational expansion and continued delivery of value to our clients.

As the General Manager, your responsibility will be to oversee and manage the overall operations of the business to support growth, operational efficiency, and organisational performance. You will be tasked with implementing strong operational systems, managing teams, driving productivity, and ensuring the business continues to deliver quality service across all core sectors.

Key metrics for your role will include operational efficiency, team performance, production output, cost control, customer satisfaction, and overall business performance. You will work closely with executive management and departmental teams to align operations with company goals, contributing to our reputation for reliability, professionalism, and service excellence.

Key Responsibilities

1. Production Management

  • Plan, coordinate, and supervise daily production activities within the workshop.
  • Ensure production targets, deadlines, and delivery schedules are met in line with customer requirements.

2. Operational Leadership

  • Manage and lead factory personnel.
  • Maintain discipline, productivity, and professionalism within the production environment.
  • Develop a culture of accountability, teamwork, and operational excellence.
  • Conduct regular production meetings to review performance, challenges, and improvement opportunities.
  • Provide guidance, mentorship, and support to employees to improve technical and operational performance.

3. Health, Safety and Compliance

  • Ensure full compliance with Occupational Health and Safety regulations and company safety policies.
  • Promote and maintain a safe working environment within the factory.
  • Ensure machinery is operated safely and that employees follow safety procedures.
  • Work closely with the Health and Safety Officer to address potential risks.

5. Production Planning and Administration

  • Manage production documentation including job cards, work orders, and production reports.
  • Monitor production costs, material usage, and labour efficiency.
  • Maintain accurate records and provide regular operational reports to executive management.
  • Coordinate with procurement and stores to ensure the availability of materials, tools, and consumables.
  • Assist in planning for capacity, resource allocation, and production forecasting.

6. Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to improve production efficiency, workflow processes, and operational systems.
  • Implement initiatives to reduce waste, improve productivity, and enhance manufacturing quality.
  • Support the organisation’s commitment to continuous improvement and operational excellence.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proven experience
  • At least 5 years in a supervisory or management role within production.
  • Experience managing factory teams and production workflows.
  • Strong organisational and administrative skills.
  • Ability to manage production reports, operational documentation, and scheduling systems.
  • Competent in Microsoft Office systems.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills.
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and reliability.
