Junior Accountant

Silicone & Technical Products

The Junior Accountant is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely financial management, with a focus on reporting, compliance, and operational controls. The role includes financial reporting, managing accounts, statutory compliance, debtors and creditors, staff accounts, stock management, imports/exports, fixed assets, and banking. The position supports management decision-making and helps safeguard the Company’s financial resources.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting and Accounting

  • Prepare, review, and maintain accurate financial records and reconciliations.

  • Produce monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.

  • Prepare detailed management accounts, including variance analysis and performance commentary.

Debtors & Creditors

  • Manage the full accounts receivable and payable function.

  • Ensure timely invoicing, collection of debtors, and follow-up on overdue accounts.

  • Reconcile creditors, ensuring prompt and accurate supplier payments.

Imports and Exports

  • Oversee the financial administration of imports and exports.

  • Ensure compliance with customs, VAT, and foreign exchange regulations.

  • Liaise with freight forwarders and clearing agents on financial documentation.

Budgeting and Forecasting

  • Assist in preparation of annual budgets and forecasts.

  • Track actuals vs budget, analyse variances, and recommend corrective action.

Compliance and Audit

  • Ensure compliance with the Companies Act, SARS legislation, and Financial Reporting Standards.

  • Prepare tax submissions (VAT, PAYE, Corporate Tax) and ensure deadlines are met.

  • Liaise with external auditors and prepare audit files.

Cash Flow and Treasury Management

  • Perform and review bank reconciliations.

  • Monitor cash flow daily and prepare forward-looking forecasts.

  • Manage relationships with banking partners.

Stock and Inventory Management

  • Oversee stock valuation, reconciliations, and reporting.

  • Conduct and manage financial stock takes, ensuring accurate results and reporting.

  • Investigate discrepancies and implement corrective controls.

Fixed Asset Management

  • Maintain and update the fixed asset register (additions, disposals, depreciation).

  • Perform regular asset verification and reconciliations.

  • Ensure controls are in place to protect Company assets.

Internal Controls

  • Implement and maintain robust financial controls across all finance processes.

  • Improve systems and workflows for greater efficiency and compliance.

Finance Staff Management

  • Lead, supervise, and develop members of the finance team.

  • Allocate tasks, monitor performance, and ensure deadlines are met.

  • Provide training and mentorship to improve staff competency and efficiency.

  • Ensure adherence to company policies and professional standards within the department.

Ad-hoc Duties

  • Provide financial insights to management for strategic decision-making.

  • Support special projects and other finance-related activities as required.

Education & Experience

  • Previous experience in Accounts Payable,Accounts Receivable,Bank Reconciliation and General finance administration.
  • Experience working with Accpac or SYSPRO,similar accounting software will be advantageous.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
